Advantages: Great storyline, Great actors

Disadvantages: Wasnt too successful

Directed by a spanish directer, Alejandro Amenabar, this is one of his first English-spoke films, and its done well for such a debut. His past efforts include the original 'Vanilla Sky' called 'Los Ojos', but of course, that was all in Spanish.

The Others is a suspence thriller, and it's made itself into one of my favourite films.

I went to see it in the cinema after seeing one brief advert for it... and boy did I like it. So much so, I went back to see it again. I cant believe I admitted to that. Anyway, I'll give you a brief storyline to the film...

It's set in a big house on Jersey, in the Channel Islands. It's 1945, and Grace, and her 2 children, Anne and Nicholas, live quietly in this house. The two children arent so normal though. They suffer from (wait for it.. take a deep breathe...) Xeroderma Pigmentosum. It may sound like a spell form Harry Potter, but it is a true disease, where people are allergic to light. I'll tell you later how I found all of this out.. I'm not THAT much of a nerd. Anyway, back to the story. Obviously that means that they are all housebound. This is where the scariness begins. 3 servants have started work in the house, and with them, some very funny goings on occur. I'll leave it there for your intrigue to get the better of you.

The character of Grace was played by Nicole Kidman. She has gone from strength to strength after filming this movie, and has recently won an Oscar for Best Actress in 'The Hours.' All the other actors in this movie are relativly unknown.

There are so many unpredictable twists and turns in this movie, so if you aren't very brainy, you wont be aware of them, until they make you jump out of your seat. Hehe.

I genuinly love this film. It keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way through.

The DVD has a few extra features including a 'Making of..' documnetary, and documentary on 'Xe
roderma Pigmentosum' (thats how I knew that earlier), a documentary on the directer, a photo gallery, and a trailer.

Funnily enough, this film was filmed in Spain. Yet looks as if it was filmed iun much colder climates. The magic of film, eh?

The film lasts for 1 hour and 44 minutes. I really really recommend it to anyone. Also, if you like this, you'll love the recently released 'The Ring.' They are both similar, and fantastic.
