Just an ok film! (The Pacifier (DVD))

Advantages: Funny at times, entertaining, a lighthearted family comedy, good kids film

Disadvantages: Not hilarious, Vin Diesels acting wasnt great, a bit cheesy

I am a huge Vin Diesel fan and when i see films coming out in the cinema with him in them i always try to go and see them. Ive always loved Vin Diesel but to see him in a kids type comedy i think is a bit of a kick in the teeth for him!

Although i wasnt expecting much from this film, i decided to rent out the dvd from my Tesco dvd rental service and give it a watch anyway.

If you have never seen The Pacifier, it is an action comedy film that came to our screens in 2005. It stars Lauren Graham, Brittany Snow and Faith Ford alongside Vin Diesel. It was directed by Adam Shankman and the running time is 95 minutes long.

The story centres around character Shane Wolf who is a navy seal assigned to rescue a man called Howard Plummer from a group of secret Serbian rebels. In the middle of the operation, Plummer is shot and killed.

Wolf is also injured and spends a few months recuperating in the hospital. Wolfe gets another assignment to stay at the Plummers family residence and guard the five children who are there. Plummers widow isnt even there to help him as she is being escorted by another operative to open her late husbands safety deposit box.

Queue a lot of running about, changing nappies, stopping childish tantrums and Vin Diesel has been transformed into a 20th century Mary Poppins. I enjoyed this film a lot more than i thought i would do but i still think that Vin Diesel would be better going back to more high paced action films.

Although he played the role of babysitter navy seal quite well, there was something strange and uncomfortable about seeing him running around on screen after a bunch of snotty nosed children.

I wont give away too much of the story incase you havent seen it but if you want some lighthearted laughs i would suggest giving this film a go. Will Wolf be able to protect the kids and will they be able to open Plummers safety deposit box?

The film had funny moments but wasnt hilarious or anything. I think children may enjoy this as there seems to be just enough action and childish gags to keep them amused but i dont think adults would enjoy it as much.

Overall, i think this is an ok family comedy that would be good to keep the kids quiet for a few hours on a rainy day. I dont think i would watch it more than once unless i was bored. Ok but nothing special!
