The Panic In Needle Park - Directed by Jerry Schatzberg. Filmed in 1971 and set in the same era, Al Pacino stars in one of his very early roles, playing the part of Bobby, a heroin addict on the streets of New York. His love interest, a homeless girl named Helen (Kitty Winn) whom Bobby met on the streets soon becomes addicted too. WHAT IS IT ABOUT: This very early Al Pacino film from 1971 tells the story of heroin addict Bobby and homeless girl Helen. The two fall in love, but when Helen is drawn into Bobby's heroin blurred world, things start to go down hill. IS IT ANY GOOD: I would never have found this film if it wasn't for my dogged pursuit of all things Al Pacino, but I am glad I did. It's a very early piece, and has a distinctly low budget, almost documentary style feel to it. This helps with the realism of the piece, which was actually marketed as a real life story upon its release. Any fan of Pacino will undoubtedly enjoy seeing this historic movie, and it's ... First off for some bizarre reason this movie has a picture of that 2Pac movie Gang Related alongside it. I haven?t seen it but I'd say it's not as good as The Panic In Needle Park. Maybe it is, hell let me know and I'll take a look! Anyway my favourite period for movies started at the tail end of the sixties and went through the seventies and then pretty much stopped around the turn of the eighties. This is probably when the almighty dollar started to overtake decent stories and performances. During this time you could find great films such as The Godfather, Network, Dog Day Afternoon, Midnight Cowboy, Easy Rider. The list goes on; during that time ... Read the complete review
