The Parent Trap (DVD) ... Quaid ... / DVD released 22 January, 2001 at Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainm / Features of the DVD: Full Screen, PAL / If you were a kid in the early 1960s, then you saw The Parent Trap with Hayley Mills--it's as simple as that. Now Disney has pulled the beloved comedy--about a pair of twins who meet for the first time at summer camp and vow to reunite their long-divorced parents--out of the mothballs and remade it with a decidedly 90s feel. This time, the twins act is performed by newcomer Lindsay Lohan, who plays both Hallie and Annie, who each live with one of their parents (Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson). Adversaries when they first meet at camp, Hallie and Annie become, well, sisters when they figure out that they are siblings. The comedy springs from their efforts to sabotage Dad's impending marriage to the gold-digging Elaine Hendrix, while reintroducing Dad to Mom. Quaid has a nice, loosey-goosey way with slapstick, as does Richardson, who plays a very funny drunk scene. --Marshall Fine

Premium Review The Parent Trap (DVD): Classic Disney Comedy! (534 words)

When Hallie Parker and Annie James meet as a summer camp, they take an immediate dislike to each other - a dislike only made worse by the constant comments of others that they look so alike they could be sisters. Thats the last thing these two want, as they set about playing tricks on each other - tricks that eventually get them into trouble with the camp leaders, who move them into an isolated cabin together until they can learn to get along . They don't get along any better, and tempers are probably not helped by the fact that the cabin is grotty, and leaky. However, over time they begin talking, and discover that each of them has divorced parents, and that ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Annie and Hallie are on the prowl (673 words)

Love or Hate Lindsay Lohan today, no one can overlook the outstanding performance that she delivered in the Parent Trap- hence marking cinematographic history both for the film and for herself as one of Disney's leading favourite family comedy actresses. The Parent Trap is an extremely, extremely entertaining film: I have watched both versions and the plots are extremely original, heartwarming and funny. But I prefer this version mainly because of the astonishing and nearly flawless performance of Lohan in this film. The plot starts off at a summer camp, where two eleven years old girls meet by pure coincidence. Annie and Hallie come from England and ...  Read the complete review

I have seen the original 1961 version of The Parent Trap countless times as it's often on TV and always enjoyed it as a kid, so when I saw that the more recent 1998 version was on TV a week or so ago, I decided to watch it. ~The Plot~ Hallie Parker (Lindsay Lohan) is a bolshy eleven year old American girl who has been brought up by her dad Nick (Dennis Quaid) on a North California vineyard. Annie James (Also played by Lindsay Lohan) is a prim and proper English girl, also aged eleven, who was raised in London by her English mother, Elizabeth (Natasha Richardson). When the two girls meet at a summer camp in America, they ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tacky, but that's why we love it (514 words)

Okay, so who else was surprised when they realised there wasn't really twins in this film, but one girl (Lohan) in both the roles? That aside, The Parent trap is a classic, if a bit cheesy, film, about a pair of long lost twins who meet 11 years into their lives, at a summer camp in North America. Although the identical twins look alike, in reality they couldn't lead more different lives. Hallie Parker (Lohan) is the country girl who lives in Napa Valley with her father, Nick Parker (Quaid), whilst Annie James (also Lohan) is a city girl who lives in the bright lights of London with her mother, Lizzy James (Richardson). At the split of Lizzy and ...  Read the complete review

11 year Hallie (Lindsay Lohan) currently resides in California with her Dad, sadly she's never met her Mum as her parents divorced when she was a baby. Coincidentally 11 year old Annie (Lindsay Lohan) has never met her Father, she lives in London in a posh estate home where her Mum designs wedding dresses for upper class aristocrats. When the two young girls are both sent to the same summer camp in America. Annie and Hallie immediately clash but after being forced to spend time together they realise that they're twins and set about getting their parents back together. The two of them come up with a plan to switch places, Hallie will go to London where she'll ...  Read the complete review
