I was quite dissapointed after watching the film, The perfect storm. The film was based on a group of fishermen who live in a fishing town called Gloucester. They leave on a fishing trip and head out quite far. The captain of the ship is George Clooney. They manage to catch a huge amount of fish, but their ice machine breaks down and they have to head off home, otherwise the whole supply of fish will rot. The problem is that there is a storm which they will meet on ther way back. They have to decide whether to stay where they are which is in the Flemish cap for a few days until the storm has cleared or head off home and risk the storm. The fishermen decide to go home otherwise their hard work will go to waste. The rest of the film is set in the storm. The special effects are great, but video or DVD does not the special effects justice. You have to watch it on the big screen to experience the storm itself. The stormy sea, the huge waves and the high winds are all produced using special effects which look brilliant. However, I was a little dissapointed earlier on in the film. The early scenes at sea, look very unreal. It looks like the ship is in a studio. The best part of the film, is when the crew of the fishing ship are in the storm. George Clooney's role was good and he did the character justice, however, Mark Wahlberg's character was also very well played. The film will not seem as good on video, because the storyline is not very strong. The film is seems was made for the special effects, so to get the most out of it you have to watch it on a big screen. Don't expect too much from the films story, as it is not as good as I had expected. It could have been made better. But watch it for the effects.

- 04/06/01 Good op. I don't fancy this one. I am fed up of films that rely on special effects rather than the plot. |
