Advantages: superb script and cast
Disadvantages: it wasn't long enough
Season Two of the Royle family starts just after the first one finished.
Dave and Denise have returned from their honeymoon in Tenerife and life has returned to normal for them all...which consists of sitting in the living room watching television together.
But there is news....
Denise turns down a cigarette!
'Mam..Dad we're pregnant'
'But you said we wern't gonna say anything' gasps Dave.
The following episodes focus entirely on Denise and her pregnancy - yes, she is still craving aeros and yes she is having to have a nap in the afternoon because it is so tiring being pregnant.
Cheryl, her best friend is delighted and volunteers to look after the baby whenver she can. Denise loves this as as she explains to her mum...'I have to keep my independence, I won't get a nanny straight away'.
We have the usual scenes in the kitchen and living room to look forward to and also the family sat around the dinner table for Sunday dinner, with Twiggy invited by Jim to enjoy lunch with them 'Don't worry about me Barb' he shouts through to the kitchen 'I eat any old shite'.
The best episode in my humble opinion involves Barbara storming out...but they can't follow her as who wants to be a millionaire is on tv. The best programme on TV bar none according to Jim.
The series like the first and those that follow portrays the intimate moments of families with superb charm and a realsim unsurpassed in other comedies. The actors are magical and have grown comfortable in the skins of their characters. We don;t see actors..we see a family and it is as if we are watching them on a cold night through the living room window.
Summary: A must just to hear what forms of transport Nana has been on
