Advantages: Royle Family is cool

Disadvantages: The DVD is not !

DVD is about getting more than VHS. Films now come laden with features and the like to entice us to the format, yet TV DVD has yet to start this.

Take the Royle Family for example, a great series here with some of the funniest lines on recent british TV. Superbly written and acted this is a must see for all comedy fans, but is the DVD a must purchase.

You do get nice scored menus, and the Xmas special episode only available here or in a full 2 series boxset. But I wanted more from this, given the Royle's popularity you might be forgiven for feeling let down by a DVD thats pretty thin on the bonus stuff.

Interviews with the cast, outtakes, deleted scenes and behind the scenes footage. Any of these would make the DVD a must have, but sadly we are left to wait for Aunties Bloomers 435 before we see anything like that I presume.

Its a shame, because the series is a must own, but the DVD has een far too lazily constructed, and therefore warrants fans only, the rest ofd us can easily settle for the VHS, unless the Xmas special means that much to you.

Good opinion, I agree the extras are a let down but the series did make up for it.

Trust me they are worth it, just make sure the discs you want have extras. DVD will become the best format, but it may take a little time
