The best comedy series around, a must have for any Royle family fan.

I got the complete 2nd series of the Royle family for Christmas and it was the best present anybody could have got me. I have not stopped laughing throughout.

The Royle Family is a comedy-based series on Granada based on a family that is quite foul but so funny. The main actors that it is based around include Caroline Aherne (Mrs. Merton) she plays Denise the daughter of the family, her husband is played by a very funny actor and his name is David. Anthony Royle the son is a star and an up and coming actor called Ralf little plays him. The mother and father is Sue Johnson (both were corkhills from Brookside) playing Barbara Royle and Ricky Tomlinson who plays Jim Royle, the boss of the household. Jim Royle being quite disgusting and filthy looking at times but so funny. Even if it is not your type of humour you do have to laugh at it.

The 2nd series on DVD is a rating of 12 so it is only suitable for persons of 12 years and over. It includes all of the series including the Christmas Special where Denise, played excellently by Caroline Aherne is pregnant with baby David. The DVD is over 200 minutes long and is played in stereo.

The picture on the film is excellent as are all DVD’s but I have to admit that there were not any extras so really it is very similar to a video. Normally DVD have introduction extras e.g. behind the scenes clips, deleted scenes and interviews with the cast. Some DVD’s have little games to play or a menu where you get to choose the ending, I know you couldn’t choose the ending on this but I do feel that the extras did let it down a bit. As when you get a DVD you do expect a little extra than a video.

The introduction screen is set out with a display of menus for you to move the cursor to the selected series that you want to watch. When you press this it takes you straight to the series t
hat you want to watch so I suppose its better than rewinding and forwarding on the video. And overall I must say you do notice the sound and picture difference on the DVD rather than the video.
The Series 2 is well worth a watch and was an excellent present for me. If you’ve not seen the series before you should try it, it’s the type of comedy that most people laugh at with some excellency storylines, brilliant acting and overall you couldn’t get.
