This film is based on a very bizarre game show from the 21st century called The Running Man.

In this game show convicted killers are given an option to execution by trying to evade being killed for three hours in a chase and if successful they will be rewarded with their freedom.

The chase takes place in a disused part of the city where everything looks like derelict warehouses and pot holed roads. The whole area is covered by TV cameras and the complete chase is televised live with enormous ratings as the runners are normally found and killed.

The Stalkers who do the chasing are larger than life figures who live a life of luxury as international celebrities, but take the risk of being killed themselves during the chase. Normally this is very unlikely as the stalkers have an arsenal of weapons and all the resources of the TV network behind them.

The host of the show is a very charismatic character named Damon Killian who is played extremely well by Richard Dawson. Killian revels in the death and glory of the chase, but above all it is the chase for the ratings that is Killian’s only goal and what the show is really all about.

Ben Richards (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is an honest cop who is framed for killing innocent women and children and his punishment is to be one of the runners on the TV programme.

The whole film is filled with action and is fast moving throughout. I suppose most of the plot is fairly predictable, but that does not detract too much from the enjoyment of this film. There are some really well performed stunts and special effects and the acting by all of the cast is excellent.

Because this is a very fast moving movie it gives it the feeling that it is a very short film, but it is about average length. (101 minutes). Like any Schwarzenegger film you can expect a big finish and you will not be disappointed in this film.

For a good action film this is one that I would recommend.
