I had no real intention ever to watch The Saint, hearing nothing good about the film at all from anyone. However, the other week it was on ITV 2 so I thought I would Sky+ it and see if it really was as bad as people had been saying. Yes, it was unfortunately and I combined the event whilst ironing - hardly the best thing to do! So what's it all about? Well from what I could make out Val Kilmer played Simon Templar and the plot had something to do with a power source called Cold Fusion. Some parts of the film were in Russia, some parts were in the UK, ah yes, and there was a bit when they were down underground in a sewer. Apart from that I can't tell you or ... Hands up those of you who had never heard of The Saint before this film was released? If you raised your hand, well, you're either too young to remember (or were born after the original series) or you were living in a parallel universe during the 60s/70s! The original series starred Roger Moore and then Ian Ogilvy as the charming Simon Templar a.k.a. The Saint... ~*~ CAST AND CREW ~*~ The Saint was released in 1997 and starred Val Kilmer, Elisabeth Shue, Rade Serbedzija, Valery Nikolaey and Henry Goodman. Produced by David Brown and Robert Evans, the story and screenplay are by Jonathan Hensleigh and it was directed by Phillip Noyce. The film ... Read the complete review

The saint is a movie that comes from the popular tv series that use to star Rodger Moore,Val kilmer replaces him as a top spy who is a master of disguise and suceeds buy convincingly changing his appearence,in this film we find him on a new job to swipe intelligence for the russians, unfortunaley the job becomes harder when the proffesseur turns out to be the lovely Dr emma russell (Elizabeth shue). The film is action packed and although you usually see through Mr kilmers disguises its still a good movie, probably not something you want to see in numerous sequals thoughIt has a james bondish feel to it and Val and Elixabeth do good jobs in there cast ... Even prior to its release, the saint was being slated by all critics as being a pathetic tv to film conversion. The film opens with the story of how Simon Templar (Val Kilmer) got his name. Soon enough, after a great opening sequence introducing both Kilmer and the bad guys, Kilmer is hired to steal a formula for Cold Fusion ("Free Energy") from Oxford University Scientist Dr Emma Russell (Elisabeth Shue). After being blackmailed into stealing the formula, the saint and Dr Russell are soon being pursued by the baddies, needless to say the saint saves the day and gets the woman. All in all a good plot, with good acting and scenes (perhaps let ... Read the complete review

Rating:
The film of The Saint was undeservedly panned by the critics. It has a good story line and is most unusual in that The Saint, played well by Val Kilmer (not my favourite actor but very good in this) doesn't instantly jump into bed with the (young, female) scientist, but actually wants to get to know her first. The Saint goes through a variety of guises in this film, all of them having a humerous side, but all linked by his unhappy start in life - a story which, until now, had not been told. You leave the film feeling uplifted: good story-line, good pace, good humour, and well-rounded characters all make this a film you will enjoy watching. ... Read the complete review
