This is a typical old fashioned british film, which a brilliant plot. It was orginally on the TV, and every now and again, it will be repeated, usually around the holiday season. I love this story, it is both dramatic and emotional, and has an all star cast. First of all, it stars the wonderful Dame Maggie Smith, yes she is a dame (not many people know that), and in this film, she plays the rather harsh Mrs Medlock, who for much of the film appears to be the villain, but by the end of the film, she does turn out quite good. Even though I said it was an all star cast, it is probably only Smith who is a household, seen as her most famous roles include those in the series of Harry Potter films, which has made her famous all over the world. In the secret Garden, she plays a completely different role, of that as a housekeeper and the person in charge of the leading character, the young Colin, who is the master of the household's son, and is thought to be seriously ill. Although at the time she wasnt know, the leading femal, Mary is played by Kate Maberly, who later went on to star in other big named Hollywood movies, such as Finding Neverland, which again is a brilliant film.

The Garden Garden is a TV film in a long history of adaptions of this story. It is easy to follow, and after Mary, who previously lived with her parents in India, before they were tragically killed, is sent to live with her Uncle in a big mansion with large gardens. She likes to garden and explore the house, in which she comes across a boy, Colin, who is actually her cousin locked away in a secret part of the house. Together, they find a garden which has been undiscovered for years. This really is a brilliant film, and definitely a one that the whole family can sit down and enjoy together. Young children will especially like the film, and better if they have read the book.
