The Simpsons - Classics - Bart Wars is a collection of four episodes from everyone's favourite yellow family, The Simpsons! The episodes included here are "Mayored to the Mob", "Dog of Death", "The Secret War of Lisa Simpson" and "Marge Not Be Proud".
"Mayored to the Mob" has Homer becoming Mayor Quimby's bodyguard after an impressive show of strength at a sci-fi convention. He soon has to fend off Fat Tony and his cronies. Packed with Star Wars references and featuring guest star Mark Hammill, this is a must see for any "Star Wars" enthusiast. Mark tells Homer to "use the forks" while appearing in a stage production of "Guys and Dolls", ad-libbing at one point about Chewbacca and Yoda. Also featuring a lot of funny moments between Homer and Quimby, they're almost like two peas on a pod really, they could both do each others jobs as well as the other.
In "Dog of Death" the family is forced to dramatically cut back in order to pay for surgery for their dog, Santa's Little Helper. It could be the difference between life and death. Features an appearance by the not often seen Veterinarian, who looks like he should be a model, but is in this field because he loves animals. He has some very good lines, and it's nice to see the family pull together to save one of their beloved pets. A moving episode.
"The Secret War of Lisa Simpson" is about Bart going to a military school because of a prank he played on a trip to the police station. Lisa, seeing the discipline and the lessons that are taught there, decides to stay as well. As she is the first female there, she gets a hard time from the other cadets. Bart tries to keep a distance between him and Lisa, as the final test awaits them. It's nice to have a more family orientated episode sometimes rather than the crazy antics that The Simpsons is usually known for. This is a good episode showcasing the bond between brother and sister, and even though doing so will ostracize him from the other cadets, Bart stands up for his sister and helps her pass the final challenge.
Finally, Bart gets caught shoplifting in"Marge Not Be Proud". Marge won't let him have the violent video game "Bonestorm" so he feels stealing it is the only way he'll be able to get it. But he gets caught, making Homer mad and Marge completely ignore him. Missing Marge's motherly influence, he starts hanging around with Millhouse's Mum, but knows that he has to put the situation right with his own mother before it becomes a permanent rift between them. Another realistic portrayal of family life (well, at realistic as The Simpsons can get) and a good episode focusing on Bart and Marge.
No extras are featured here, and at 12.99 on amazon it is very expensive for just four episodes. Probably only recommended for anyone who wants to complete their "Classics" collection, otherwise get the whole season.
Summary: More classics from The Simpsons!
