Advantages: This is during the show's absolute peak, every one is a classic

Disadvantages: They still don't make them like this anymore

As i've said in previous reviews, this season falls right in the middle of the Simpsons creative peak ( Seasons 2 to 7 ) and has some classic episodes and shows even sharper humour, better animation and even some risque humour aimed squarely at the Adult audience, also during this season the Simpsons passed their Milestone 100th episode ( who would have thought that they would far surpass that ).

It was important for a couple of reasons, firstly its notable for probably some of the most acclaimed episodes ( Cape Feare and Rosebud ) and also for introducing Cletus the SlackJawed Yokel, also it's list of star studded guest appearances would grow longer and even more prestigious, appearing this season were such celebs as : George Harrison, David Crosby, Kelsey Grammar, The Ramones, Frank Welker, Phil Hartman, James Brown, Albert Brooks, Ernest Borgnine, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert Goulet. Gerry Cooney, Sam Neill, Conan O'Brien, James Woods, Kathleen Turner, Buzz Aldrin and James Taylor.

As mentioned it does contain some of the more critically acclaimed episodes made, here are my favourite 3 from this season.

3rd : "Homer and Apu"
After getting food poisoning twice from expired food eaten at the Kwik e Mart, Homer finds himself getting Apu fired from his position, Apu ends up coming to live with the Simpsons and Homer resolves to get Apu his job back. In an interesting side note, Michael Caine was originally approached to be the person who takes over Apu's role in the Kwik e Mark but he declined, so they rewrote it for Actor James Woods and I think he was perfect for the role.

2nd : " Deep Space Homer"
NASA decides that they need to hire average joes in order to get higher television ratings. They recruit Homer and Barney to train to be the first average American in space. Homer, who wants to be respected, is the winner by default, and goes into space. This episode was a huge undertaking for the writes as they had never done anything as big as putting Homer in space, and you can tell that they spent time and effort working out the Gags and the story to make it worthy of the Plot. Interestingly enough this episode is actually made available for astronauts to watch on the International Space Station !!

1st " Cape Feare "
I think this episode features on alot of peoples must see list and deservedly so as its a classic and is still as funny today as it was when it was first aired, its a perfect parody of both the Original Cape Fear movie, and its 1991 Remake, in particular the Rake scene ( you'll know it when you see it ) started out as unfunny, but after watching it again and again gets funnier each time ( in fact it was inserted into the episode that way to make the episode fill the time allowed ) An absolute classic in every way.

This Season should be watched, if only because its one of the final seasons where every episode is a classic and the writing was at its sharpest. They'll never make another one like this again !!

Summary: One for the collection
