Advantages: Funny, touching, just excellent
Disadvantages: None
The seventh season of The Simpsons starts where the sixth season finished; answering the question everyone wanted to know: Who Shot Mr. Burns? This episode is just one of many classics from this season.
The animation is superb in this season, very fluid and smooth. The writing is, as always, mixing a balance of razor sharp wit and belly laughs and the guest stars are numerous! Some include Christina Ricci as someone who befriends Lisa when The Simpsons vacation at Little Pwagmattasquarmsettport, Paul and Linda McCartney who show Lisa that she shouldn't force her beliefs about vegetarianism onto others and Donald Sutherland as the curator of the Jebediah Springfield Museum who learns that Jebediah may not be the man history remembers him as.
One of the best episodes in this season is "Mother Simpson" in which Homer's mother (voiced by Glenn Close) comes back into his life, but she seems to have more than a few secrets. I challenge anyone to find a more genuinely moving moment than the end of this episode when Homer is looking up at the sky, it's not just one of the best Simpsons moments ever but one of the most touching overall TV moments I've ever seen. You can almost feel the sadness that Homer is feeling, which is a testament to the fantastic crew who work in every facet of this show to make the characters as believable (and as funny) as possible.
All episodes come with audio commentary and other extras include deleted scenes, animation showcase, sketch gallery and a 3D Homer featurette. setting the standard for animation DVD's.
Overall another classic season and highly recommended for anyone!
Summary: Top-notch entertainment!
