Advantages: Fantastic episodes, contains probably my favourite scene from the simpsons ever
Disadvantages: That they haven't made a season like this since
The Simpsons Season 7 was first aired in the United States between September 1995 and May 1996 and in my opinion this is the truly last great Season of the Simpsons before its slow and gradual decline, this season opened with the continuation of the previous seasons finale "Who Shot Mr Burns" with the eagerly anticipated outcome.
The popularity of the Simpsons by this point meant that celebrities were starting to ask to be featured in the searies, this Season featured a veritable Cavalcade of guest stars including : Tito Puente , Mickey Rooney, Phil Hartman, Paul and Linda McCartney, Paul Anka, Glenn Close, Harry Morgan, Kelsey Grammer, R Lee Ermey, Lawrence Tierney, Tom Kite, Bob Newhart, Donald Sutherland, Suzanne Somers, Kirk Douglas, Alex Rocco, Jac Sheldon, Jeff Goldblum, The Smashing Pumpkins, Cypress Hill, Peter Frampton, Sonic Youth and Christina Ricci.
One interesting fact amongst all the guest stars on the show is that to get Paul McCartney to appear he insisted that the shows creators turn Lisa Vegetarian and keep her that way which they have and I think what turned out to be a simple request from a guest star has defined her character from then on.
This season has some absolute classics but I'll list my top 3 in order of least to most favourite. ( Warning Spoilers )
3: Treehouse of Horror VI.
I always like the treehouse episodes but this one in particular is one of my faves, there are two great stories regarding Groundskeeper Willie being a Freddie Krueger type character and another where Homer inadvertantly brings Advertising board characters to life, however the true highlight is Homer3, where Homer gets trapped in an alternate universe while escaping from Patti and Selma and is animated in 3D, ending with him actually entering the real world as a 3D Homer, something that was very impressive back in 1995 when this was created.
2: King Size Homer.
In order for Homer to gain disability he purposely gains 61 pounds to be a registered disabled person and be able to work from home, his plan works but he soon finds his weight to be a hinderance and ends up inadvertantly causing a potential Meltdown at the Nuclear Plant, the highlight of this episode for me is a scene where Bart is on the school bus and being picked on by the other kids for his dad being too fat, while defending him outside the School Bus window Homer is driving a stolen ice cream truck and eating ice cream.
1: Mother Simpson
Having always believed his mother to be dead, Homer finds her to be very much alive, Voiced by Glenn Close it turns out his Mother was a 60's radical who has been on the run from the Police after an accident at a chemical lab, Homer is so happy to have his mother back in his life but it is short lived as she is forced to go back into hiding and he finds himself saying goodbye to her, this episode is one of the finest episodes ever in my opinion, not only for the usual Homer humour, but we really see a very human, very touching side of Homer when he is devastated at having to lose his mother again, I defy anyone not to shed a tear while watching the end credits with Homer sitting on the hood of his car watching the stars while some beautiful music is playing, its possibly my favourite individual scene from the Simpsons ever.
So there you have it, in my opinion the last great Simpsons season made, before they would start to get a little patchy, all the episodes are great and are watchable over and over again, and for any Simpsons fan not to have this DVD in their collection is a crime.
Summary: Watchable over and over again

- 20/08/09 Love King Size Homer & the MooMoo. The next season's my favourite, though. |

- 20/08/09 Personally, I've never really liked the Treehouse of Horror episodes. I always find the humour much more strained and thinly spread than normal Simosons episodes. |
