Advantages: Humour, Storylines

Disadvantages: Five episodes maybe isn't enough!

Just who isn't a fan of The Simpsons, eh? Not me, that's for sure! Not just content with just watching the many episodes shown on TV these days, I also have a few of the 'themed' videos available, or were available a few years back. One of these videos is 'The Simpsons Greatest Hits'.

There are five episodes in total, not that many for a video you might think, but a lot of the ones like this only had about four as well. The theme that puts these particular episodes together on one video tape is simply because they are considered 'landmark' episodes, e.g. 100th episode, 200th episode, first ever episode, etc. The front of the video shows The Simpsons heads carved into a mountain range, with the real Bart climbing off Marge’s head.

The episodes on this video are as follows:-

'The Simpsons roasting on an Open Fire': This is the very first episode from 1989, also a Christmas themed episode. This is where Bart gets a tattoo, and Marge has to spend the Christmas present money on getting it removed; so Homer gets a job as Santa to make some more money for Christmas. This episode is also the one where the Simpsons get Santa's Little Helper, their dog.

'Sweet Seymour Skinner's Badass song': In this episode, the 100th one, Bart takes Santa's Little Helper into school, and manages to get Principal Skinner fired from his job. After this, they both form an unlikely friendship - can Bart help get Skinner his job back at the school?

'Trash of the Titans': In this one, the 200th episode, Homer loses his temper with the Garbage men, and they end up striking because he won't apologise. So Homer runs for the job of Sanitation Commissioner of Springfield, and with a little help from U2 (the band), he gets the job - but can he really do a better job than his predecessor?

'Bart gets an F': When Bart fails his latest project, he is told by his teacher that if he fails a final exam, he will be held back a year. To get out of the exam, first he feigns illness to get off school, and then a day before has to take it, Bart prays to God to prevent it, and it snows, so he's saved. But he must still revise for his exam while everyone else plays outside - can he still pass the test? This episode was also the highest-rated Simpsons episode on U.S Television.

'Lisa's First Word': The family are all waiting to see if Maggie will say her first word, when Marge reminisces about when Lisa was born and when she said her first word. The episode also looks at a very young Bart, and how he copes with having a new sister around. In this episode, we get to hear Maggie speak for the first time in the series!

Overall, the episodes on this tape aren't my favourite ones, but they're still all very watchable, and will appeal to just about anyone really, whether you're a Simpsons fan or not! The video is rated 12, as there is some bad language in the episode 'Trash of the Titans'; but apart from that, there's nothing particularly rude or violent in the other episodes.

The video cost around £10.99 when I got it, but I don't think you can buy this from many places anymore. Apart from the criticism that maybe five episodes on one tape isn't enough, you can't really complain about the episodes' content, so this definitely comes highly recommended and gets the thumbs up from me!

Thanks for reading! :-)
