Advantages: Award winning film, beautiful scenery, singing and bonus scenes
Disadvantages: None
The Sound of Music is probably my favourite film of all time and if like me, you love to watch it over and over again then this DVD is definitely for you.
It is a two disc 40th anniversary collector's edition of the Rogers and Hammerstein classic. The movie won 5 academy awards in all, including best picture.
If you are not familiar with the movie here is a quick overview:
Maria, or Frauline Maria as she is called in the film is a young women who always wanted to be a nun, she dreamed about it when she was a little girl and used to run up and play in the hills above the convent and look down at the nuns and long to be one of them. When her behaviour doesn't go down well at the abbey she is sent to be a governess to 7 children! Their father, Captain von Trapp is probably still getting over the death of his wife and is away from home alot so does not spend as much time with the children as he should. The story then develops into a beautiful love story between him and Maria with her helping him to love his children once again and the life they have together.
The film is set in Salzberg, Austria and has some breathtaking scenery, especially that of the house and its view out onto the lake.
The film includes the classic songs such as Do-Re-Me, my favourite things, Eidelweiss.
Maria is portrayed beautifully by Julie Andrews for which she won a golden globe award and Captain von Trapp by Christopher Plummer.
The first disc of this DVD shows the film which can be watched with or without singalong subtitles - put the singalong version on, it is hilarious, especially if like me you know all the words but are not a very good singer!!
The second disc has all the special features. These include:
Introduction by Julie Andrews with commentaries from director Robert Wise, Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.
Singalong features and lyric book
65 minute making of documentary with Julie Andrews
Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer reminiscence
Von Trapp children 40th Anniversary Reunion
50 minute biography programme about the real Von Trapp Family - this is a really interesting part and one that should not be missed if you want to find out all of the story and what happened to them next.
Screen tests/storyboards/original publicity materials/trailers and tv ads.
The film is from 20th Century Fox and is rated U for universal, suitable for all and plays for approximately 167 minutes.
A must have for your DVD collection!!
Summary: The Sound of Music - The best films ever made and this DVD will be a asset to your DVD collection!
