Great film, crap ending. (The Strangers (DVD))

Advantages: good acting, scary and jumpy, tense.

Disadvantages: crap ending.

Strangers was brought into the pictures around here last year and me and a group of friends went to watch it.
It was really good throughout and very jumpy keeping you on your toes. It was different to most horor films which made it better because your average horror is stalk and slash wheras in this film, it's cat and mouse between James Hoyt, Kristen Mckay and the weird stangers who are intent on hurting them. It's a little odd that the characters don't attempt to stand up to the strangers despite being scared, they're in a house that has knives ad other potential weapons so I thought they might start to fight back. The masks that the strangers wear are effective in the film, they give it more of an edge and make it more scary because if we were just seeing someones face, it would't be as ononymous and that character wouldn't be strange to us, so the mask helps to put the audience into the victims situation of not knowing who the strangers are.
Despite enjoying the film throuhgout, I was thoroughly disapointed at the end. After seeing films like hostel and saw, you expect gory deaths, however sick that may sound. After a great chase to catch Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman, They tie them to chairs and just stand there and stab them. I failed to see the objective in this and thought it was completely pointless as they didn't even give a motive. If they did kill them just becuse they're psychos, why sit them on a chair, tie them to it and just stab them. I thought that the whole film was leading up to a big climax at the end and it was a let down.
I've heard rumours about a second one and would still watch it though because the films itself was jumpy and scary which is what a horror is all about.
I would recommend this film but not the ending.

Summary: Overall this is a good film and is jumpy and scary creating tension for the audience.
