Advantages: Good morals
Disadvantages: Bad storyline and animation
The Tale of Despereaux is a movie best left for the children.
The film centres around Despereaux, a small mouse and his friend a rat called Roscuro galavanting around Dor for adventures as they are banished for having lofty ambitions. They end up on a mission to save a princess in danger. Despereaux's mission is to become a knight by saving the Princess.
Despereaux with his big ears is a likeable children's character. but doesn't have enough of a back story to make his character special. His sidekicj Roscuro is there for comedy value though falls flat.
The film at times can also be a little dark for a children's movie with some scary moments. The storyline is also stereotypical drivel of hero saving princess.
While the film's premise is stereotypical at least it encourages positive themes to children like chilvary and honour.
Emma Watson, Sigourney Weaver, Matthew Broderick among others provide the voices although they will be glad it's just their voices rather than acting ability they are providing.
The animation is weak compared to Pixar movies.
There are alot of extras including a making of, interactive map of dor top ten uses for oversized ears, an interactive game, and builda boldo that will give the kids some extra entertainment that the film lacked.
The Tale of Despereaux is a dull movie and should avoid.
Summary: Best left for the children
