After he accidentally cuts himself on said stolen implement, everyone he tattoos gets a visit from nasty demonic forces.....he falls in love with the young woman who was with the Samoans, tattoo's her (in a really bizarre sexual scene) and then has to find out how to stop the demonic forces. Does he saved his tattooed customers? Does he save his new love? Does he ever tattoo again? All this and more to be revealed, somewhat clumsily throughout the film. I hav...more

Crowned Review The Tattooist (DVD): Distinctly un-Ink-redible (540 words)

What do you get if you mix a cool, gothic story with a group of good actors and a gorgeous leading man? Err, a rubbish film it appears, if The Tattooist is anything to go by. The movie was released in 2007 and is a Singapore and New Zealand co-production directed by Peter Burger. It runs for 92 minutes and stars Jason Behr and Mia Blake. I really wanted to like it - I love thrillers and I love watching the very good Behr on screen. The premise for The Tattooist seemed like it was new, funky and had the potential to create something really mesmerising, like The Ring. The basic idea is that a talented tattooist (Behr) steals a tattooing tool from a ...  Read the complete review

A review of the film only, the region 2 DVD was released in January 2009 and can currently be found online for around £8 or £9. A young tattoo artist named Jake Sawyer is attending a tattooing convention in Singapore when his attention is drawn to a small group of Samoan tattooists executing their work with traditional tools and methods. Fascinated by their designs, Sawyer makes brief contact with the tattooists before making a sharp exit, along with one of their tattooing instruments that he misappropriates from their stall. A confrontation with a dissatisfied customer results in a small injury to his hand but Jake disregards this and sets about looking up an ...  Read the complete review

The Tattooist (2007) Cert. 18. So, Saturday afternoon and what do Virgin Media have on special offer? Ooh a film about a tattooist unleashing demonic forces by his tattooing, and for just 99p, just what I want to see after two hours of being tattooed in my never ending quest to disguise myself as a graffiti wall. Jason Behr plays a young(ish) American tattooist on the hunt for new designs all over the World at various tattoo conventions. His own particular niche is that he specialises in tattoos that are meant to heal....tapping into ancient eastern wisdom, blah, de, blah, de blah. Well, anyway, he comes across some Samoan ...  Read the complete review

The Tattooist, DVD review After becoming disillusioned with the movies on Sky recently, we have started hiring more DVD's. I first saw the preview for The Tattooist last summer and having been waiting patiently for its release. The main cast Actor, previous roles and character Jason Behr - The Shipping News, The Grudge - plays Jake, an unethical tattoo artist specialising in healing tattoos, travels the world to discover tribal and ethic tattoos that he can incorporate into his designs. Michael Hurst - Fracture, Honey, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys - plays Crash - Jake's off/on boss who offers Jake work ...  Read the complete review
