The Tattooist (2007)

Cert. 18.

So, Saturday afternoon and what do Virgin Media have on special offer? Ooh a film about a tattooist unleashing demonic forces by his tattooing, and for just 99p, just what I want to see after two hours of being tattooed in my never ending quest to disguise myself as a graffiti wall.

Jason Behr plays a young(ish) American tattooist on the hunt for new designs all over the World at various tattoo conventions. His own particular niche is that he specialises in tattoos that are meant to heal....tapping into ancient eastern wisdom, blah, de, blah, de blah.

Well, anyway, he comes across some Samoan tattooists, in Singapore, is intrigued, not just by their methods, but by the young woman working with them (of course), he steals an old tattooing implement and off he trots to New Zealand (not really sure why).

After he accidentally cuts himself on said stolen implement, everyone he tattoos gets a visit from nasty demonic forces.....he falls in love with the young woman who was with the Samoans, tattoo's her (in a really bizarre sexual scene) and then has to find out how to stop the demonic forces.

Does he saved his tattooed customers? Does he save his new love? Does he ever tattoo again? All this and more to be revealed, somewhat clumsily throughout the film.

I have not given a list of actors or director etc. they are all unknown and on the basis of this film, likely to remain so.

Okay, I'm being harsh. Behr is okay, in a smouldering, can't act well but will appeal to teenage girls kind of way, yep, he has a great body, stubble and the tattoos, though probably not real, are nice pieces of work.

~~~What is good about the film?~~~
Very little. The tattoos look nice and the basic premise and idea is good.
~~~Not so good?~~~

Well, where do I start? The acting, on the whole is poor. The plot is weak and yet could have been an awful lot better as the basic premise was good. The pace is jumpy and disjointed, tension does not build, rather, we see a series of 'scenes'. The special effects ar pretty naff and the 'spirit' is about as scary as a Blue Peter episode.

~~~Finally~~~
I am not one for especially short reviews, this may well be one of my shortest ever, but I find it hard to say much more than I have about this film. For 99p it was watchable, just. Had I have paid the full Virgin Media price of £3.95, I may well have been a lot more upset.
My 14 year old son liked it, so I asked him why....tattoos, some nudity (not much) and some rock music, and that is it.
What a shame as this film really could have been quite good, and, it started with a bit of promise, we learnt a little about the Samoan culture, tattooing and the history of it.....ten, downhill all the way, one star for me, if I could give half a star I would!
Summary: The Tattooist.
Sounds very much like an episode of Friday the 13th I saw once on the Horror Channel....
Re: your title - I wonder if that's what the registrar said to Katie Holmes on her wedding day...? xx
Haha, Behr smouldered his way into appealing to me :)
