Advantages: The best horor film you'll ever see

Disadvantages: In a word: sick

I saw this film last night on Channel 4 and from the moment it started I knew it was going to be something special. I'd heard of the film before but I didn't know what it was about but from the title I could guess that it was something else.
I am torn between to worlds about the film. I think it is a wonderfully acted, produced and directed film which is much scarier than any Blair Witch Project but the basic storyline of the film is sickening and I'm not sure if this is suitable for anyone to see and remember it was made in 1974.
The plot goes like this: A group of 5 tourists are travelling through some Texas country side when they stumble across a family of psychpathic canibals in an old house they are visiting. They begin to realise something is wrong when they pick up a hitchhiker who cuts himself (and one of the group) in front of them.
As they each go into the house they all meet a sickening demise, and I mean the most sick disturbing and death you could imagine. The majority of the film follows a girl who manages to escape the family after been held for several hours. I won't give too much detail away about what happens when she is held but you will be horrified.
The acting is brilliant and this contributes towards the film being so effective. THe sounds also help/ They are just simple and short noises which don't sound like anything inparticular but they make things even more mysterious.

If your looking for a horror film then this is THE horror film. Its got everything, great acting and an absorbing plot. However I just wonder if it should have been made in the first place. Its too disturbing to justify its existance, some things are best left untouched. As a film it deserves 5 stars but because of its content I'm only going to give it 3.
