Advantages: ORIGINAL FOR IT'S TIME
Disadvantages: FREAKY, BORING
Everyone knows about this film as it's somewhat become a semi cult film. After being banned for a number of years and then the comeback of the film with well known pictures displayed everywhere of a man in a mask waving a chainsaw I thought that when it was going to be shown on channel 4 that I should watch it. The film follows a group of five 20ish year olds travelling back to their ancestors house after there has been grave robbing in the area to make sure everything is alright. They pick up a hitch hiker on the way that likes mutilation and from then on their lives are over! They go off in smaller groups and walk around the premises and then into the house when a man suddenly appears(leatherface) dressed like a butcher waving a chainsaw and knives. Without giving too much away, don't expect many people to survive, and I promice you'll be confused about the ending as I was. The film is quite horrific on times, specifically in my opinion with the infamous scene when a girl is hung on a cattle hook when still alive. It did make me feel sick, and so did the ending, but, I still don't think it deserved to be banned as the trailors and posters made it look much more horrific and shocking. It's worse to think that what's in the film did happen to an extent in real life with a man called Ed Gian. The film overall is ok although Tobe Hooper I think could have done a better job compared to other films of the same genre.
