Advantages: Good film
Disadvantages: Not quite real
THIS OP WILL TELL YOU THE TRUTH ABOUT THE FILM, IS IT REAL? Look and find out. Please note: as commented by some users, this op is similar to my op in the film section. Some of the text is the same. I have however added a section about the DVD features etc that seems to have been over looked. Cheers For your comments all The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of the scariest films I have ever seen. Even though it was made about 20 years ago Tobe-Hoopers original vision is still shocking and scaring everyone who watches it. For those of you who dont know what its all about, basically it is a 'true' story of a group of 6 teenagers on a afternoon drive through the American countryside. The opening of the film is a series of shots of ex-humed courpses and this sets the scene for the whole film. What happens to these teenagers is shocking, discusting and downright sick. The whole of the film is shot to make the viewer feel uneasy, the film is grainy with sharp contrasts between light and dark. The whole film is shot in such a way that makes the viewer feel hot and sweaty and this enhances the horrror of the movie. The DVD is a horror fanatic's dream. It is packed with features. There is the usual scene access which, as usual, is well partitioned. There is a series of bloopers, which to be honest with you arent really much cop, or funny for that matter. But then again, its hard to be funny in a film like this. There is a selection of deleted scenes. Now this bit is rather good. Although most of them are very grainy and have no sound, there is text to accompany each to give you a little bit of background. This is needed and increases the interest in the film. There is a series of stills and a commentry over this film which is good to find out what the writer/director was thinking as he was making this downright discusting film. The whole film is remaste
red which improved the contrast over the original film. The sound is digitally remastered, now in stereo (the original was in mono). The sound in this film is well eeerie.. Makes you much more scared BUT, people keep asking me. Was this thing real? As is advertised on the front of the box. Well with a little researching I found this: The film is not real. The events in the film never happened. But however, near to where Tobe Hooper lived when he was young there was a man named ED GEIN who was convicted of cannabilsm, murder, torture and necriphilia. This man was very similar to the 'leatherface' in the chainsaw film. Ed Gein was a recluse who was Born at the turn of the century into the small farming community of Plainfield, Wisconsin, USA.His mother taught him from an early age that sex was sinful. In 1945 his mother and older brother both died. After this his farmhouse soon degenerated into a 'madman's shambles'.He remained alone in the enormous farmhouse, haunted by the ghost of his mother, whose bedroom he kept locked and undisturbed, exactly as it had been when she was alive. He also sealed off the drawing room and five more upstairs rooms, living only in one downstairs room and the kitchen. He began a very unhealty interest in the female anatomy and bought copious books on the subject such as pornography, art, pulp fiction and anatomy. His fasination led him to seek victims and eventually it was found that he killed as many as 15 women. When he was finially arrested it was brought to public knowledge that he would remove the internal organs of his victims and keep their heart, liver and lungs in the fridge or hanging around his house. He often covered himself in human skin, especially over his face and danced around the house. Just for fun. When the police searched his house. They found one woman hung on meat hooks and her internal organs removed. Her ki
dneys and lungs etc were found in his fridge and her heart on a plate on the kitchen table. Around his house furnature was decorated with human remains. His 4 poster bed was decorated with skuls and leg bones. The lampshades in the house were made from skin, just like in the film itself. The police also found severed heads stuffed wtih newspapers, a belt decorated with nipples... Lovley eh. Anway so you can see the answer to wether this film is true is dubious. It never happened to those kids but did happen to someone else. Mainly women in their 50's Cheers Alex PS please feel free to add comments

- 27/07/01 Cheers everyone for your comments. And thanks again for reading my op. |

- 25/07/01 I know you've updated and justified this, but I'd recommend writing a whole new op or not bothering. Doesn't seem a lot of point pasting any of the same text into a new review.
I see you've written loads, but I think you still have some stuff to learn. Maybe try reading some other peoples stuff (including mine I hope) for an idea of what is well recieved. |

- 25/07/01 Hi Alex,
I have re-rated. The DVD section of your opinion was definitely not there first time round - if you pasted the op and then added to it maybe I was getting the first section cached or whatever the technicalities are!
I have read the added piece and would still say that the cut and pasting of your other opinion into this one is distracting to the DVD review. |
