The 39 Steps is a classic book written by John Buchan, it was the first in a series of novels starring the boy's own adventure hero Richard Hannay. It has long been one of my favourite stories and the recent stage play has made it a make a welcome return to prominence. Having watched the 1970's (rubbish) version, the brilliant Hitchcock original and the BBC's Christmas drama (ok but fatally flawed) I thought it was about time I compared the 50's version of this classic tale to the others.
