The Tuxedo (DVD) ... Love Hewitt ... / DVD released 04 August, 2003 at Universal Pictures Video / Features of the DVD: PAL / Jackie Chan looks spiffy in The Tuxedo, but the movie needs a tailor. No Jackie Chan movie could be a total misfire, however, and he's charmingly self-effacing here as a hapless chauffeur who inadvertently replaces his injured super-agent boss (Jason Issacs) and foils a madman (Ritchie Coster) who plans to infect the world's water supply and reap a fortune selling pure bottled water. Jackie's a bumbling superhero after donning his boss's high-tech, Inspector Gadget-like tuxedo (it even has a "Mambo" setting), and curvaceous co-agent Jennifer Love Hewitt coaches him in crime fighting while closing in on the bad guys. It's all as routinely ridiculous as it sounds--Jackie's faux James Brown act is the only real highlight--and as critic Roger Ebert observed, the climax hinges on an insect queen that doesn't exist in nature! So, while Jackie and Jennifer provide a few moments of stellar stunts and random amusement, you can blame this mess on screenwriters who didn't do their homework. --Jeff Shannon

... partner Jennifer Love Hewitt, who plays an excellent role alongside Chan. The usual Jackie Chan action follows as they suit up (thus the films title) for an entertaining international story of espionage. Dreamworks Pictures did a good job with Tuxedo. It is very entertaining and the action scenes are sweet. Jackie Chan is smiling through and the feel good factor kept me watching. Jennifer Love Hewitt looks pretty in her suit and adds the charm and sexiness that the film would otherwise lack. Great sound, above aver...more

Premium Review The Tuxedo (DVD): OMG I Killed James Brown! (1504 words)

• The Bottom Line(at the top for variety) • If you like dumbassed Hollywood action comedies and are prepared for it to tread water a little at times with some decidely unecessary plot exposition then you?ll get the required bang for your buck. If not, then forget it and if you are considering watching because you are a Jackie Chan fan, then prepare to be disappointed by the amount of CG and wire-work employed in blatant disregard for his talents. It still offers more laughs than most straight comedies of recent times though. OK you can quit reading now, the rest is just waffle. • The Ramble • I?m going to have a sigh here. I was ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review It's all gone James Tong... (731 words)

Though his reputation goes before him, I don't think I'd ever seen a Jackie Chan film before - certainly not the foreign ones where he first made his name, and not even Hollywood ones such as Rush Hour. As for Jennifer Love Hewitt, I'd been sorely disappointed by some of her previous movies (e.g. Heartbreakers), but knew she'd at least bring, ahem, 'redeeming features' to the film. The real reason I watched The Tuxedo was simply that it was on TV and I didn't have much better to do and, although I've heard mixed opinions on it, if you were in the same situation I'd say you could od worse than watch. It's a kind of comedy spy-spoof that I guess could most ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Tuxedo (DVD): Awful (584 words)

Jackie Chan and Jennifer Love Hewitt ? superspy spoof ? all manner of groovy gadgets ? fun time had by all ? lots of jokes and skits and good time ? smart family entertainment ? it?s a Mini adventure? Now, I could just leave it there because that about says it all about The Tuxedo, but where on earth would be the pleasure and the challenge, even if it is succinct and to the point? I?ll give you more? The Tuxedo is a light hearted comedy adventure from the Dreamworks stable which was released in 2002, featuring Jackie Chan, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jason Isaacs ...  Read the complete review

Take a look at the majority of Jackie Chan's work in his native country and you'll see that the success of his films are built on the ability to have charm, humour and fight scenes that are exciting, sometimes brutal but always entertaining. Chan's english language efforts so far have brought us the Rush Hour films and Shanghai Noon. Both relying on Chan to play off an affable sidekick. Chris Tucker is a reasonable foil in the Rush Hour films while the drywit of Owen Wilson has seen Noon be the best US chan effort so far. Now we have The Tuxedo which pairs Chan with Jennifer Love Hewitt, a female sidekick and one that I wouldn't say no to (if you know ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Tuxedo (DVD): Only for diehard Jackie Chan Fans (574 words)

Being a big fan of Jackie Chan i went to see this film at the cinema. I love many of his films as you can always expect a feel good film mainly down to his super stunts who for those who are not aware he does himself. I swear the guy has more lives than a cat. From Jackie Chan you can expect action and comedy from a film and the tuxedo does give you this in a certain way. The story; Jackie Chan plays Jimmy Tong who leads a very simple life working as a chaffeur for an egotistical millionaire Clark Devlin. When Devlin is involved in an accident an dis placed into hospital, Tong is sent to the millionaires house to pick up some items for his hospital ...  Read the complete review
