Advantages: Special effects are stunning, battle is great, passion is still there
Disadvantages: None that I can think of
I have been in to the Vampire genre for a good while and have enjoyed films such as Queen of the Damned, The Lost Boys and Interview with a Vampire - more recently I have really enjoyed the series of True Blood and Vampire Diaries. This gives you a good idea of what rocks my boat in this genre. I really did not think for one minute that the Twilight saga would be for me, what would it have to hold my interest as it wasn't my age group? My daughter insisted that I would enjoy and so I gave in and we sat down to watch Twilight - I eat my words, how wrong was I and thank goodness my daughter is tenacious! I loved Twilight, I really enjoyed New Moon and now I looked forward - I should say 'could hardly wait' for the Eclipse to be released. I was not disappointed this movie was brilliant!
The film begins with Victoria creating Riley, a newborn vamp who she tricks into thinking she has feelings for in order to have him build an army of newborns to avenge her former love who was killed by the Cullens - Edward in particular. Bella is her target as she wants to inflict the same pain on Edward that she feels without James her lover.
I like the fact that the vampires (Cullen family) need to join forces with the werewolves as this produces some great scenes of tension between Edward and Jacob who are both desiring the attentions of Bella. Jacob is convinced that he can offer her the best future and protection and more of a 'normal' life than Edward. I find it amusing also when Edward reads Jacobs mind as this often infuriates Jacob, understandably!
The film is really geared up to a fight which will take place between the newborns and the Cullens and of course leading up to this fight there are intrusions and sighting of unknown vampires who are seeking Bella's belongings in order to let all newborns take in the scent so that they will all be hunting her out and seeking to end her life.
The Volturi become involved when they need to investigate numerous killings that could expose vampire existence to humans. When they discover Victoira's revenge plan they agree to allow them to proceed as they bear a grudge with the Cullens and Bella.
Alice manages to see the future and this allows Edward and Jacob to take Bella well out of the way from where the fight will take place, high in the mountains. When the battle begins Victoria is not with the newborns, she has found Bella but not reckoned on Edward and a young wolf being with her - she meets her end after a pretty exciting and impressive battle. Meanwhile on the battle field all but one newborn called Bree Tanner are dead. The Volturi arrive and are stunned to see the Cullens alive, they are unaware of the help that the wolves gave. They kill Bree even though Carlisle offered to be accountable for her which I thought was quite sad.
The ending is satisfactory and leaves you wanting more, which will be a two part film of the whopper book called Breaking Dawn! There is talk that it may be in 3D!
I really really enjoyed this film, still not the intense passion of Twilight but there is a good amount of believable passion in it and the fight scene is brilliant! The film gears up to it and as I love wolves too I was in my element. Great acting, great effects, superb!
Bring on Breaking Dawn!
Thanks for reading.
