The Village is a horror film, released in 2004, and is directed by M.Night Shyamalan. It stars Bryce Dallas Howard and Joaquin Phoenix.
*Synopsis*
Set in an early turn of the century village, the inhabitants are forced into living all their lives within the small village. This is because of the mysterious monsters that live within the woods that surround the village, or as the villagers call them 'Those who we do not speak of'. But when a villager is gravely hurt it is up to blind Ivy to venture into the scary woods and go to a nearby town for medical supplies. Will she make it past the monsters that live there?
*My Opinon*
Luckily I never bought this film. I watched it on Sky a few years ago and it still confuses me now. The time line for the story is confusing at best, with random flashbacks and other odd pieces of footage that has no releveance to the film. The plot is weak at best, no real interesting parts, and the best word to descirbe it is scatter brained. Then there the acting. Phoenix has enough charisma as a wet lettuce and Brody as the mentally challenged villager Noah is passable as best. Howard tries her best in this strange role as why the girl has to be blind is another mystery. If Shymaman thought it would make story that little bit more interesting, well it didn't. I can't really see anything redeeming in this blundering attempt at a horror, except there are times when you do jump (more of a hop than a leap though I'm afraid).
If you have to watch it rent don't buy!
