Advantages: Great music you can sing along too (if your old enough) Funny script with lots of romance thrown in too.
Disadvantages: Well if you didn't like the 80's music, then this may not appeal to you. You might be shocked at the dress sense, lol.
The Wedding Singer Well here I am with another movie review. I have seen many an Adam Sandler movie but my favourite has to be this one. Not only is it funny but it has loads of musical hits from the 80?s which I love. I was surprised at how well Adam can sing too ? he really gets into the songs and when the movie was finished I noticed on the credits that he?d actually helped write a few of them too so he?s a man of many talents (well probably, lol!!) ~~~~~~ THE PLOT ~~~~~~ If you haven?t seen this movie you might want to just gloss over the start of this as I am about to reveal quite a bit of the plot but I?m sure it won?t spoil it for you! Picture the 80?s or 1985 to be precise! Loads of dodgy clothes and dodgy doo's (hairstyles), but the music was great wasn?t it? Adam Sandler plays the part of Robbie Hart, a wedding singer. Which obviously means he sings at peoples weddings, but as well as singing he seems to do well at making a few announcements etc. His girlfriend is Linda. He loves Linda and is planning on marrying her. The date is set and everything is going fine until the wedding day!! All the guests have arrived and everything looks rosy but still no bride!! As the crowd start to whisper, his sister turns up saying Linda has left him a note and she won?t be joining him at the alter. Woe is Robbie. You can?t help but feel sorry for him, this starts the feeling of deep depression for Robbie. He lives in his sisters basement and is playing sad records by The Cure just to cheer himself up (not) He turns from the most wanted wedding singer in town into a total nightmare for all newly weds. Singing songs like LOVE STINKS (yeah yeah) and making depressing announcements. He meets a waitress called Julia who seems to cheer him up a little, but he makes a decision not to sing at weddings anymore after a run in with a brides pop who
isn?t to pleased with his choice of songs and ends up in a barny which involves the cops, lol. Very funny stuff. You don?t actually see any cops but there is a reference to them being there. Julia the waitress (Drew Barrymore) has been waiting for her boyfriend to pop the question for 2 years and is beginning to think he?ll never ask her to be his wife but surprise surprise, out of the blue one day he comes out with it. He asks her if she?d like to go to Las Vegas and get hitched and she accepts only they end up going for a more traditional wedding. Glen her boyfriend isn?t to keen on the idea of shopping for flowers and dresses etc and asks Julia if its okay if he leaves all that stuff to her (typical). So she needs a hand with the arrangements and who better to ask but the man who goes to every wedding in town. Yip you guessed it Robbie to the rescue. He helps her pick out her dress with the help of one of his band members, George! George is a wanna be Boy George and sings Do You Really Want to Hurt Me at every function they play at, very amusing if you don?t mind me saying so. He also helps her get the best deals on wedding cake and flowers etc. They are spending a lot of time together and she even practices her wedding day kiss on him. The sparks are flying and so is the electricity between them. ~~~~~~ MY VERDICT ~~~~~~ I will leave it at that for the plot as I don?t want to give away too much but it really is a fab movie. I must have seen this about a dozen times and it still makes me laugh. Adam is great as Robbie Hart and plays his role really well and as I?ve already said he is an excellent singer. I was very pleasantly surprised about that. Drew Barrymore plays Julia very well too and the chemistry between herself and Adam is very believable. There are a lot of actors in this you might not recognise but that doesn?t mean its not a great comedy romance movie! I really
loved the music in this too and found myself singing away, You spin me right round (sorry don?t remember who sang that), songs from The Thompson Twins, The Cure and Culture Club to name but a few bands that feature in this classic comedy. If you remember the 80?s this will be a great nostalgic movie for you, where the music is concerned anyway! Would I recommend it? Yes Yes Yes. If you haven?t seen it, then go and rent it now or buy it even. I bet you will enjoy it and I know I?ve said it before but I?ll say it again. There are some truly classically funny moments in this and you?ll find yourself pressing the rewind button just to watch them again!! Its classed as a romance but I would say it's more like a comedy romance but not too slushy as to put some men off :)) I hope I have convinced you to watch it :0 ) ~~~~~~ CAST ~~~~~~ Adam Sandler ? Robbie Hart Drew Barrymore - Julia Christine Taylor ? Holly (Julia?s cousin) Matthew Glave - Glen Angela Featherstone - Linda Alexis Arquette ? George Alan Covet ? Sammy (Robbie?s best bud) Billy Idol ? Billy Idol ~~~~~~ DIRECTED BY ~~~~~~ Frank Coraci

- 02/03/02 I love this movie, the music is superb as well - Sandler's rendition of the Dead or Alive track is better than theirs as well. |
