Once upon a time in a world without VCR's, cable TV etc. (or channel 4 and 5 for that matter), lived a little girl who was scared of witches and quite surprisingly her favourite film was The wizard of Oz which features the wicked witch of the west (the scariest witch of all time). It hadn't occurred to me that some people have never seen this magical movie, I just assumed everyone had seen it (well in my age group anyway). Until recently, I discovered that my boyfriend is one of these people. As a child this was my favourite movie. Once a year at Christmas the wizard of Oz was the featured film shown on no other than BBC1, I waited with baited breath for it to start, it was a real treat. The whole family would gather in front of the TV to watch as the introduction began (a medley of all the songs from the movie), everyone was silent as we joined Dorothy in Kansas ….. *Kansas* This is where we meet Dorothy. She lives on a Farm with her auntie Em, uncle Henry and toto (her dog). Life in Kansas is getting quite mundane, Dorothy feels that everyone is against her and dreams of a land far away, this is where she bursts into song "Somewhere over the rainbow". There is a storm, Dorothy is hit on the head. With Toto by her side the film begins. *Over the rainbow* When the door of the house opens, the view is spectacular. This is when we meet the rather strange looking munchkins and Glenda the good witch who is v. beautiful (well, she is when you’re a child). Dorothy's goal is to get back to Kansas. Clad with the ruby slippers off go Dorothy and Toto along the yellow brick road …. *The Yellow brick road* Here Dorothy meets all her friends - the scarecrow, tin man, cowardly lion. They all tag along to see the wizard of Oz. I wont say anymore about the storyline (I don't want to spoil it, in case you've never seen it). There ar
e many magical moments in this movie. If you've never seen it do yourself a favour and watch it.
