The Wrestler - Mickey Rourke gives fine performance (The Wrestler (DVD))
Member Name: pagso
Advantages: Moving tale, well acted Disadvantages: quite predictable The Wrestler is an opportunity to gawp at Mickey Rourke and wonder what on earth he did to himself! It feels like he is playing himself to some extent, anyway he is totally believable as a wrestler 20 years into his career who has neglected his family, relationships and health for the "sport". Rourke has an impressive muscular physique which is lucky as the rest of him is falling apart as a result of the hammering his body has taken over the years from the fights and the drugs he needs to take to maintain his body shape. The film charts his attempts to rekindle the relationship with his estranged daughter and attempts to make a life without wrestling and the difficulties he faces in coping with the stresses of struggling to make a living outside of the wrestling ring. Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood are excellent as his would-be girlfriend and daughter but the film is dominated by Mickey Rourke - and rightly so. He definitely deserved his oscar nomination for this film. Summary: Shows what a good actor Mickey Rourke is |
