Advantages: Original, some out standing episodes, fantastic actors, clever plots. Need I go on?

Disadvantages: Probably not realistic, often confusing.

The X Files is a truly original sci fi drama, in which the main characters are FBI agents, Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson). Together they attempt to crack the greatest unsolved mysteries of the world.

Mulder is the superstitious one, who always goes for the paranormal explanation, whereas Scully is more practical and always goes for the more scientific explanation. They are so different that they kind of cancel each other out and they are the best of friends although the relationship is mostly very professional, for now at least.

The programme probably isn’t realistic but it can be very absorbing, addictive in some cases, and often chilling, unnerving and very weird (but in a good way!); the plots are clever and often quite believable, the acting is always fantastic and at 40 minutes long, the episodes are the ideal length of time.

Odd episodes are out standing, but I do find the majority extremely confusing. And there are some episodes which I don’t understand at all because the plots are just too intricate and complex to get my head round.

The show has being going for several series, which I have watched on and off through out the years, and started it’s seventh last night. It began where it left off, with Fox in hospital with an unheard of illness and Dana is in Africa, I think it is, investigating various strange occurrences linked to this extraordinary design found, which holds an enormous amount of power, could explain how the world was created and may even be linked as to what is wrong with Agent Mulder.

This is one storyline I only sort of get, but I found the opening episode yesterday just as consistent and interesting as the last six series and would recommend it to any science fiction fans, particularly believers in the supernatural.

Catch it at 9 pm, Wednesdays on BBC 2.

Agreed it is getting repetitve, I really don't rate it anymore. The first 2 seasons = brilliance, after this it's pretty mediocre. I also hear there is a new spin off series - the lone gunmen - i simply can't see this working either :(

I've been watching the X-Files since the BBC showed the second series, and I think I've watched most of the episodes. I will continue to watch it, but I think that it's getting rather repetitive. SO far, I haven't liked what I have seen of the new series on the BBC. But, I'm sure there will be some good episodes among the boring ones, there always are.
