Chris Carter’s ‘The X-Files’ was one of the definitive TV shows of the 90s, and this first season holds up surprisingly well even in light of what was to come over the following nine looooooooong years. As a debut season that was being written pretty much as it went along, the characters are a little more one-dimensional and the show’s main ‘mythology’ storyline often contradicts itself, but a commendable portion of these first twenty-four episodes continue to shine as some of the series’ very best, especially before the rapid decline in quality that came after the 1997 feature film. Collected together on a 7 DVD set, these episodes set the tone for every ... Read the complete review

A 7 DVD set for around £20 is a real bargain. As this is the first season, some of the acting is a bit sloppy, and you get the opinion they hadn't really made their mind up about some of the characters fully, but it's worth getting for fans of the show. The X Files is a series from the US focuses on two FBI agents who work the X Files: cases related to the paranormal. Whilst Fox Mulder is very pro alien, Dana Scully is the voice of reason, giving a scientific approach to unexplained phenomenon. The show ran from 1993 to 2002. WAS IT ANY GOOD: The thing about the X Files is it had (and still has as I have found from re-watching a few episodes) ... Read the complete review

The X-files season 1 DVD box set comes with seven disks, there are 24 episodes with each of six disks containing four, and the final seventh disk is left for the extras. The whole package comes in a cardboard box; with an outer sleeve that holds the inside box that fold out to hold all seven disks. One side of the fold out holds the disks and a booklet while the other side is decorated with stills and quotes from the series. While the box is extremely stylish and cool it WILL get damaged and torn through time and is already starting to show the effects of living on my active DVD shelves. The booklet also holds quotes and information about each episode in this series, ... Read the complete review

When the just released Season 2 boxset of X-Files dropped through my letterbox this morning I was reminded to share my views on the Season 1 boxset that I've had several months now. I remember when the X-Files started in the UK on the BBC. The adverts looked cool and after some glowing reccomendations from friends I started to watch and was instantly drawn in by the creepy atmosphere and the intriguing idea of the unknown being hidden from the public. I was also a teenager at the time and this sort of thing was cool ! A few seasons later and I never really watched every epsiode religously until the last season on BBC 2 which featured some great ... Read the complete review

**This is a review of the physical boxset rather than episodes it contains, so you will NOT find any plot spoilers or indepth character analysis, what you will find is my opinion on the actual complete presentation** Right before I go any further, I'm going to put my hand up and admit that I'm a sci-fi nut, I really, truly, want to believe. My husband would even say that as far as Sci-fi on TV goes I'm a bit of a geek, so it's no surprise that I'm pretty much into The X-Files. What is, perhaps, surprising is that I've only just started buying the nine series on DVD. It's true, I do have the complete collection of the "specials" on VHS, but I ...
