Advantages: Great watch, something different.

Disadvantages: none.

i've just finished watching this first season of the X Files and i must say i was pretty hooked.

The box itself is great with a cardboard sleeve over a plastic DVD case. Inside there is a total of 7 disks containing all 24 episodes, this included the pilot episode. The box also includes a booklet containing a list of the episodes and chapter selection.

Pilot

The pilot episode sets the foundation for the series, it introduces us to Scully and Mulder and shows us how they meet.
Spooky Mulder works on the X Files in the basement and unexpectantly gets a new partner, the ever sceptical Scully.
I found this episode just as good as the rest of the season however i couldnt help but notice that David Duchovny's acting skill were very slightly poorer than later on in the season. He seemed slightly scripted and a little sticky but this soon disappears by the next episode.

So what else happens within the 24 episodes?

Like many of you you'll probably find that you've seen most of the episodes at one time or another from the T.V, i had seen them all exept one but despite this most of the plots i had forgotten so it not stop me enjoying the whole season. Some of my favourites were as listed below.

Squeeze, most people will remeber this one, it introduces us to Eugene Tooms, it is the first of two episodes which features Tooms and his exrodinary ability to get in and out of tight places. Of course Mulder is onto it straight away but Scully as usuall never quite grasps the whole situation. This episode will send Mulder and Scully on a hunt to find the evidence they need to get Tooms behind bars, but will bars alone keep him locked up?

The Jersey Devil

This was my favourite one, unlike most of the rest of the episodes this one is not supernatural and has a perfectly good explanation. Worse still is could be real somewhere in the world. Without giving too much away Mulder and Scully are looking into a murder that was very messy. It takes place in the woods and Mulder is convinced its the Jersey Devil. But what exactly is the Jersey Devil, Mulder gets to the bottom of this one but nearly loses his bowels in the process.

Darkness Falls

This episode i think is the closest Mulder and Scully become to being wiped out. They travel into the remote woods to investigate the disappearance of a whole group of loggers. Who or what could have got rid of all those bodies? The discovery of one body strung up in a tree inside a cocoon puts the shits in everybody. No wonder. It becomes evident that darkness it their enemy and with the generator choking on the last of the fuel they're going to have a long night.

The Erlenmeyer Flask

I've put this one in because it is a huge turning point in Scully's character. During the whole season she seems to never be in the right place at the right time and always misses anything that would be hard evidence. Mulder on the other hand witnesses everything that would prove the strange phenomenon. This episode changes it all for Scully and she discovers that Mulders consistent ramblings of other beings "out there" may not be as far fetched as she first though.

The Season as a whole.

Each episode can be watched on its own without any problem, the stories stand alone however by watching them in order many things become aparent. Mainly the government, we learn early on that something is going on and the government know exactly what. I beleive that over the course of all the seasons that all these episodes are only part of a much bigger picture. I'm just about to watch season two so i cant wait to see what else Spooky Mulder and Scully uncover.

Disk 7

Disk 7 is the bonus disk, it contains a number of things including a short documentry about season one. Although its shorts its worth watching. Dont bother with the DVD rom games its awful but listening to Chris Carter talk about some episodes from the first season is also a very intresting watch.

Stats

Fox Mulder - David Duchovny
Dana Scully - Gillian Anderson

Approx time - 1056 minutes
rated - 15

Price varies hugely. Ive seen seasons at £35.99 but this one was on sale at £15.99. Check play.com, they seem to be cheapest on the internet.

Hope you like it and remember the truth is out there.

Summary: Great evening watch.
