There are a lot of films past and present which are on my list to see but it's a matter of getting hold of them and getting the time to see them. Sometimes I like older films better as I feel the acting was a bit better and it was less about the amount of special effects but purely about the plot. When we were having our weekly DVD night, my friend mentioned that she had the film 'Thelma & Louise' it is a classic that I've heard so much about and was curious about but had never had the DVD so when she said it all other options went out of the window and we settled on this for our choice that week.

Geena Davis (Thelma) and Susan Sarandon (Louise) are two middle class friends who have decided to plan a weekend trip away from their partners. Thelma's husband is controlling and intolerable and Louise's does not seem to want to settle down. The trip starts out brilliantly, they end up at a bar to wind down for a night, Thelma attracts the attention of a local man being the more outgoing, fun loving one where as Louise is more sensible and wise to sleazy men with their chat up lines. It isn't till they separate for a second that Louise loses Thelma and then finds this man whom she was with trying to rape her drunken friend in the parking lot. Louise gets angry and shoots him but now with blood on their hands they have no option but to hit the road and go on the run.

They meet up with a criminal J.D. (Brad Pitt) who again seems to be attracted to Thelma. On the road they come across a few dilemmas such as Louise's partner showing up, and so on but it turns into a bit of an adventure as the girls go on the road trip of their lives, not sure where it will end after their crimes. They seem to loose control a bit near the end, but it is a brilliant film and it did go really quick.

It is nothing like I thought it was going to be as I knew it was about two friends going on a road trip but I didn't realise it was crime related at all. They are two very different characters but together they do work really well as in most pairs of friends you will always have a more sensible one and a wilder one but together they create and interesting team.

Susan Sarandon was brilliant in the role of Louise, she is the more serious one and I have seen her in a wide range of roles but this really showed her talent. She was able to play a strong minded character and still let go a bit later and her accent in the film was also good and believable.

Geena Davis was also good in the role of Thelma, although a fun character she has a lot of challenging scenes to act out in this film but did them convincingly. I don't think I have seen her in anything else that I can think of off hand but she definitely stood out in this film and she and Susan had a good on screen charisma.

I think Thelma and Louise did live up to my expectations with having more depth to the plot than originally though. It was a plot which had a lot of messages to it and shows that not everything in life goes according to plan. It is also a story about friendship and how out of everyone your friends will always be there for you and to not let life hold you down too much. Definitely a good film to sit and watch with all of your friends or even with the family but it does go quick although it isn't the lightest of plots at the beginning.

This film is available to buy on DVD at Amazon for £4.98 which is a bargain really, the film is a 15 certificate and it lasts approximately 124 minutes which sounds long but it doesn't seem it when viewing. The film doesn't actually have an official website but there are many fan sites online as well as reviews and so on and I'm sure a trailer is viewable.
