What makes a good horror?

The answer, I think, lies in how many times you jump out of your seat. There is no point in watching a horror if it does not make you jump.
What would be the point in that? The film must also be serious, if its not, then how on earth can you take it seriously enough to actually be scared?

It is the same principle in that if you watch a comedy, its got!!! To make you laugh, otherwise it really is a poor movie.

This movie does make you jump and it is serious. So that should equal a good horror movie, right? Dead right!!

I know, some people hate it while others love it. But thats the beauty of watching it yourself after you make an informed judgement on the information you have to hand. So I hope this review helps.

13 Ghosts starts like a bat out of hell. You wonder what you have stepped in to. And I suppose to be fair unless you concentrate you may have to watch it a second time to really understand what is happening at the beginning.

Let me explain. Some old bloke is out catching ghosts and he is on to ghost number 12. However he has correctly predicted that he may not live to see another day after attempting to catch this particular ghost. Cue the flying bodies, destructed cars and fantastic directing. In predicting this untimely death he has made a video dedicated to his nephew and family. In this video he leaves his estate to this very poor family and of course they are delighted now having fended of the bailiffs etc.
Now admittedly the house this nephew inherits is out of this world. It is made of glass, nearly all of it. This is really the only totally unbelievable part about the film (like catching ghosts is believable, I know what your thinking.) Anyway the family go into the house and also strangely they find some strange glasses which eventually transpire to be glasses specially made to see ghosts (also believable huh?) So with that set, cue the family looking round the h
ouse and the silly kids releasing all 12 ghosts that were trapped in the house by the now deceased uncle. Then cue the deaths, more awesome camera work, effects and fear you have not experienced for a long time. By the way the mean uncle wanted the nephew to be the 13 Ghost, the nephew was to die in the house you see.

You will end up asking yourself one question. Why don?t the ghosts just get out of the house, why are they trapped??

Keep an eye on whats written on the glass of the house. It?s a religious inscription of some kind, it binds the ghosts so they can not pass through the walls. Clever huh?

Well enough on the storyline. What about the qualities?

This film had a great marker. My partner (The Mrs). She likes to watch horrors only when someone is with her. She cant sleep afterwards and cant go to the ladies room either so to speak without a bodyguard. Well this horror incapacitated her for weeks afterwards, and that is not an exaggeration.

Look past the few fairly unrealistic probabilities (remember most horrors are actually unbelievable when you think about it) and you get a very good scare fest.
The ghosts are truly terrifying, some more than others, but these ghosts are really much better than most recent attempts to make movie goers jump to the ceiling.
All I can say is that if you get scared easily, beware The Jackal. It reminds me of how a spider moves. Weird I know.

The script is not the best but it is not the worst either especially as I said earlier, you don?t straight away get what the film is about but that criticism should I suppose be thrown at the director.

The film certainly keeps you interested all the way through which a lot of horror flicks fail to do.

An overview I hear you say? Well this film has only minor faults, it is not the finished article but it really is the best horror movie you will find on your local Blockbuster shelf. Anything else just really su
cks. Sorry but most do. So few directors actually catch the atmosphere a horror movie should catch. Some are more funny than scary and some are about as scary as Bambie. The film should be your first choice of any horror movie. Please realise if you can movies like Sixth Sense are not horror movies, they are Chiller Movies (Yes, I did mean chiller) they are meant to chill you to death (and they do) not scare you to death like this film does.
Get the pillows ready girls, and lads, stop being so macho and just admit that this film made you make little noises in your knickers. Happy viewing.

Summary:
