'This Is Spinal Tap' is a comic mock documentary about an over the hill (and not very bright) British heavy-metal group called 'Spinal Tap' as they attempt to tour the United States for the first time in many years. With a new album called 'Smell The Glove' and a back catalogue of classic songs, including 'Sex Farm' and 'Big Bottom', what can possibly go wrong? The answer is almost everything. As Spinal Tap's tour progresses, they quickly find they are struggling to fill the venues booked for them and that the manager and the lead singer's girlfriend are both competing for control of the group. Battling technical problems, internal tensions, and indifferent ... Read the complete review

One of the funniest movies ever, this mockumentary sees metal relics Spinal Tap caterwaul and bicker their way across America to promote new Album "Smell The Glove", followed at every grunt and gurn by megaphone beard Marty DiBergi (aka Rob Reiner). But what's so "special" about this edition? Well, the main menu carries a commmentary from the band. The subtitle menu carries a commentary from the band. And number 11 on scene selection is... Go on, guess. That's the welcome intelligence that runs hard through the disc like a cucumber slung down a bass-player's pants. It's there in the extras, which include more than an hour ... As eleven lucky souls can testify I've previously reviewed this film, but when you get a DVD of this quality it needs a platform of it's own. For those not sure of the product let's first have a brief recap of the movie. The film is a spoof documentary following England's loudest band,Spinal Tap,on their ill fated comeback tour of America. The documentary maker,Marti DiBergi (played by Rob Reiner who also directs) spares no blushes with band fall outs and poorly attended signing sessions all brutally exposed. The bands' chequered history from their flower power origins to their catalouge of dead drummers is all revealed. The film is hysterically ... After many years of band fueds Spinal Tap decided to blow the dust off the rockumentary they were part of and release it on dvd. It has been worth the wait. MGM have produced a 2 dvd set for the UK which features some excellent features. On the first disc the film is presented in 1.85.1 anamorphic widescreen. The picture is a little grainy because of the age and low budget status of the film. However it still looks great. Soundwise the film has been re-mixed in dolby digital 5.1. The film doesn't call for extensive use of surrounds so don't expect a full immersion but when the Tap are playing a gig the songs really come alive as you get the feel ... Read the complete review

This DVD is superb- it may be the only time where the extra's add a completely new level to a film- the 3 heroes of the film Christopher Guest, Micheal Mckean and Harry Shearer reprise their roles for a feature length commentary- that believe it or not is as funny as the actual film! I've watched this film with the commentary on with my friends 3 times and we all agree how excellent it is. Not only but also on the disc is a "catching up with marti DiBergi" a new short film with Rob Reiner returning- pretty darn funny." Ther's ton's of deleted scenes- some great, but generally just "nice" This ... Read the complete review
