Now I am not a huge Julie Andrews fan. I don't like Mary Poppins much and I find that her diva-esque attitude following a throat operation are irritating. That said she has done some fun movies and this is one of them. Before you watch this bear in mind that it is a film that does not take itself seriously. The effects that would have fresh and new are now dated and dodgy to the point where you can almost see the strings holding people and aeroplanes up. Thoroughly Modern Millie is a 1967 spoof of 1920's life. Written by Richard Morris and directed by George Roy Hill. The stereotypes and sub plots are laughable, you have to stay reminded this is a spoof of a silent movie melodrama. Julie's film is aided by Mary Tyler Moore and James Fox. This movie inspires a future Broadway musical with a new score, thankfully in some cases as the movie did dawdle on unnecessary musical numbers which are no part of the plot.
