Advantages: Some funny bits

Disadvantages: Should have been a classic

A really wasted opportunity, with three genuinely funny men - Steve Martin, Chevy Chase and Martin Short - with a very funny idea to unite them. They play has-been silent movie stars, 'the Three Amigos' who travel south to Mexico on what they believe is a personal appearance, but is in fact a plea for help from an embattled Mexican village.

This may sound like a prototype for 'Galaxy Quest', but whereas that film seemed incapable of putting a foot wrong, this older movie is a relentlessly annoying turkey. The dead hand of director John Landis (responsible for most of the Eighties' overrated big-studio comedies) and a weak script which fails to capitalise on the situation means that it goes nowhere. Martin and Chase do their best, but they fight a losing battle.
