After her mum dies of a drugs overdose, young Jeliza-Rose and her father Noah go to stay in his deceased mother's farmhouse in Texas. Jeliza -Rose like she has always done fixes her father up so he can go on one of his 'Vacations', but this time Noah doesn't return to the land of the living. Tideland by the the director of Brazil Terry Gilliam, possesses rather darker overtones than his previous work. It effectively combines the sunny open spaces of the deep American South with the warped vision of a gothic horror movie. Her rocker father (Jeff Bridges at his best) ... Read the complete review

The film tells the story of Jeliza-Rose (played by Jodelle Ferland) who, after the death of her parents, spends most of her time involved in a fantasy world which she has created. I suppose it's a bit like 'Pan's Labyrinth' in concept - but this film is nowhere near on the same level. In fact, this is probably one of the worst films I have seen for a long time. On the particular DVD version of the movie which I saw, the viewer is forced to watch an introduction from Terry Gilliam prior to the opening scenes. Gilliam basically makes excuses for the film before it's even begun. I was like, ... Read the complete review
