Tin Cup (DVD) ... 11 May, 1998 at Warner Home Video / Features of the DVD: PAL, Widescreen / One of the better romantic comedies of the 1990s, this quirky love story stars Kevin Costner as washed-up golf pro, Roy "Tin Cup" McAvoy, who has the singular misfortune of falling in love with the girlfriend (Rene Russo) of his arch rival (Don Johnson). Although he is inspired to re-ignite his golf career, challenge his opponent in the US Open, and win the affection of the woman of his dreams, McAvoy has just one flaw: he's a show off when he should just focus on playing the game. Reunited with his Bull Durham writer-director Ron Shelton, Costner fits into his Tin Cup role like a favourite pair of shoes and costar Cheech Marin scores a memorable scene-stealing comeback as McAvoy's best buddy, Romeo Posar. Mixing his love of sports with his flair for fresh, comedic dialogue, Shelton takes this enjoyable movie down unexpected detours (although some may find it a bit too long), and his characters are delightfully unpredictable. --Jeff Shannon

Premium Review Hand Me The Big Dog (1366 words)

Rating:

~ ~ You can count on one hand the number of good golf movies that have been made down over the years. One of the originals, and still one of the best, is the 1951 film “Follow The Sun”, which is the story of the early life of the late, great Ben Hogan, the legendary American golf pro, directed by Sidney Lanfield and starring Glenn Ford. Another that comes to mind is the comedy “Caddyshack” (1980), directed by Harold Amis and starring Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, and Bill Murray. (plus the gopher, who stole the show) A 1988 sequel called (originally) Caddyshack 2 wasn’t nearly so good. ~ ~ But in 1996, another golf movie, ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tin Cup (DVD): Tin Cup (373 words)

To really appreciate this movie all you need is to like a good comedy with a touch of romance added. Although this movie centers around golf, you don't need to like the game to like the movie. As a matter of fact, I really detest golf but absolutely love this movie. Tin Cup takes a really great cast of actors and gives you the type of comedy that you can relate to instead of over the top situations or juvenile humor that is often times not funny to everyone. If you don't enjoy this movie then comedies might not be your bag. Roy Mcavoy or Tin Cup, played by Kevin Costner, is a washed up pro golfer who is running a fairly run down driving range who meets Molly ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Kevin Costner- great or disasterous film?! (203 words)
by - written on 13/08/00 (Useful, 32 readings)

This is my very last review of today, so I have chosen to write about the 1996 "Tin Cup". This is a good film starring Kevin Costner. I feel he has received a lot of bad press over the years about some of his most recent films, but if the press delved further back in his career they will see the true talent behind a few badly made films. This is one such film. It is surprising to see that I am the first one to review such a good film. It may not be one of the newest films but it is just as good as many films that have been released recently. It is great to see Kevin Costner, the way he can and used to be. Although the story is about a golf pro and ...  Read the complete review

I am watching Players Championship which is like fifth major in Golf. Lets do a review about a golf film Tin Cup is a 1996 romantic comedy starring Kevin Costner and Rene Russo. Roy "Tin Cup" McAvoy is a talented golfer, he never made the cut and less able golfers have got ahead of him in the game. Psychologist Dr Molly Griswold goes to Tin Cup for golfing lessons, strange this because Tin Cup doesn't do much coaching. Molly takes golfing lessons because her boyfriend is a golfer. Molly and Roy are opposite personalities. She falls for him. Molly's boyfriend is golf pro David Simms (Miami Vice Johnson). He was once friends with Tin Cup. ...  Read the complete review
