Suzanne Stone (Nicole Kidman) always had one goal, to be on television. Her entire life revolves around television and fame. She comes from a good family and they are appalled when she decides to marry Larry (Matt Dillon) who's family is suspected to have links with he mafia. Suzanne's family feel that Larry brings out her wild side. Larry's family think she is a little strange and Larry's sister (Illeana Douglas) thinks she is cold and false. The two go on their honeymoon and seems to have a nice time. Unbeknown to everyone Suzanne is just using it as a stepping stone to break into tv. To Die For is a dark comedy thriller, with a lot of strange moments, as director Gus Van Sant takes a murder mystery and gives us the story piece by piece. Nicole Kidman stars as the sultry weathergirl who uses her sexuality to persuade three school kids to murder her husband, played by Matt Dillon. Joaquin Phoenix leads the school kids in an early role, and Dillon is very good, but it is Kidman who steals the show here. The film is given to us in the form of a series of interviews and flashbacks, as people are shown on camera recounting events and their thoughts on the characters and what happened. At each flashback, we slowly begin to piece ... Read the complete review

This is a weird little film isn't it? I've watched it a few times now and there are still bits that confuse me. It stars Nicole Kidman as Suzanne Stone, a TV personality who persuades three teenage boys to kill her husband! This film is a dark comedy, and I think there are lots of people who struggle with that as a genre. It's very bleak and sinister, and yet funny in a quirky way. The plot is different, unpredictable and odd. The storytelling method of interviewing people along the way put me off a bit, breaking the illusion that it was real. The film is a critique of fame and stardom, and the obsession with the media. It can be seen as ... Read the complete review

Suzanne Stone (Nicole Kidman) is a woman with a mission. She wants to be on television. That's it. What is life without being on television? You're not anyone til you're on TV apparently. After getting married to Larry (Matt Dillon) and being hated by his family who think she's totally not the right person for him, she goes down to her local tv station and bags herself a job as the local weather girl. Finally - she's on TV. And despite only having to read the weather she treats it like she's on a special mission - she spends hours preparing like she's interviewing the Pope or something, and doesn't have time for her husband anymore. Besides, she's only with him for the ... Read the complete review

What did Ulrika have to do to make it to the top? "To Die For" (1995) directed by Gus Van Sant (My Own Private Idaho, Good Will Hunting) and starring Nicole Kidman (- I'm sure yoo all know who she is but - Malice, Eyes Wide Shut), explores a similar question. Plot Summary Kidman plays Suzanne Stone, a weathergirl with talent thin on the ground but more than meteoric aspirations. "Little Hope", New Hampshire, is not the ideal launchpad for a budding star, so Stone is prepared to use unscrupulous means to promote her media career: exploiting, and ruthlessly discarding as it suits her, her femininity, the schoolkids who participate ...
