Advantages: jolie
Disadvantages: poor script
I liked this film way more than I should. I'll be honest though, this review is a little biased. I'd enjoy a film that was about Angelina Jolie sleeping. She is, without question, the most beautiful woman in Hollywood. She has a figure that is breath-taking, a face of an angel, but is hard as nails. She's the dream babe. It also helps that she is a great actress, and she totally makes the film Tomb Raider. Most video game movies are never any good, Tomb Raider is the slight exception. It's not a great film, by any means. In fact, everything about it is totally mediocre. There is OK action scenes, nothing you haven't seen before. The script is as bad as your typical summer film, you know how it is. In fact, the only thing special about the film is Angelina Jolie. Angelina is Lara Croft. She is the Tomb Raider. Either she'll win your heart, or she won't. I had a great time with the film. Of course, I was sold with the sexy poster. Like Swordfish, the film opens with it's best action sequence. Lara fights a huge robot, and it's a pretty cool scene. The film was directed by Simon West (Con-Air, The General's Daughter), those familiar with those films will know what to expect with the look of the film. There are some quite beautiful locations in the film, West shot all around the world, and used some of the same soundstages as in the 007 films. Those not familiar with the video game, don't worry about it. You don't need to know anything about Lara Croft going in. The plot, which is one of the most absurd in recent memory, is pretty pointless for a film like this. It revolves around a triangle of some sort, that is broken into two pieces. Each piece is on different sides of the globe. Who ever gets the pieces, will have the power of God, and will be able to do anything. It's up to Lady Croft, to find the pieces, before the bad guys do, and destroy them. There are a handfu
l of good action sequences. There is a scene where Croft is dangling on some bungee cords, and ends up fighting some bad guys. She then hops on a motorcycle and does some more damage. There is a scene wear she has to battle monkey statues in a tomb, which is pretty fun to watch. The supporting cast does nothing for the film, even Jon Voight. In fact, Jon Voight's character has no place in the film, it distracts. The film could have also had a better ending. I'm mildly recommending the film. The people I went with, and the audience seemed to have a great time with it. It's not because of the action though, it's all because of Jolie. Her facial expressions, her sassy lines, the way she looks at other characters, she is just perfect. Her outfits are jaw dropping, and no matter what she is doing, she is always jiggling. I got exactly what I wanted with this film. Nothing is sexier than a woman with a gun, and that's exactly what I got. I wanted to watch a babe, kick butt. And boy, does she ever. There is something so cool about action-babes. Take the Alien films for example, or The Long Kiss Goodnight. That's what Tomb Raider is all about. Nothing more than a hot babe kicking butt, and getting the audience aroused while she does it. When it comes to summer films, who could ask for more
