Advantages: Angelina Jolie
Disadvantages: Not much else
I've never played the TOMB RAIDER computer game. To be honest, computer games bore me rigid - if I can't understand what I'm meant to be doing after the first five minutes of playing then I don't see the point of playing them! However, I've seen a number of movies made out of computer games, and not one of them has been any good. MORTAL KOMBAT - no good. WING COMMANDER - no good, despite some good special effects. SUPER MARIO BROTHERS - how did Bob Hoskins get involved in such dross? And so, I didn't expect much from TOMB RAIDER. And I got what I expected. Despite some fantastic eye candy in the shape of Angelina Jolie, the film has few other good points. Jolie is a fantastic actress (as she has shown in some of her previous films) but she doesn't get to display her talents in this movie (surprise surprise). The storyline is derivative (there's another surprise - not!), and not even the Jon Voight/Angelina Jolie mix shows any spark (they're father and daughter in case you didn't know). I'm kind of worried now for the future - Simon West (the director of this tripe) is soon to be taking the directorial reins for the movie of one of my favourite TV shows, THE PRISONER, and I'm a little concerned about what he'll come up with after seeing TOMB RAIDER.
