It's 1879, and after making his name as a revered law man in Dodge City, Wyatt Earp and his brothers, Virgil and Morgan, along with their wives, head for the town of Tombstone, Arizona in search of a fresh start. With the goal of making their fortunes in the prospering Tombstone, they soon come to realise that the town is under the control by a ruthless band of killers known as the Cowboys, leady by Curly Bill. Courted by the local authorities in an attempt to persuade the legendary law man to come out of retirement, Wyatt point blankly refuses to become involved as he longs to create a new life for himself. After taking over the gambling tables in a saloon, he seems to ... Read the complete review

I love movies almost as much as I love Jack Daniels, and that's saying something. Good movies are becoming fewer and farther between these days, so there can be few better ways to spend an evening than renting a classic and relaxing with a bottle of wine (or JD if you're lucky). Westerns are a strange genre. Most people will love and detest films in every genre with equal ferocity, but will decide whether they like them or not based on the merits of the film. Westerns are different. You either love or hate ALL of them, and that's a fact. But as with every rule, there is an exception. For the 14 months (seems like 50 years) I have been with ... You’re in for a treat if you haven’t seen this. If you felt slightly deflated after watching Wild Wild West and vowed never to watch another Western again then salvation is at hand in the form of Tombstone. Believe me this movie has it all, a cracking story, memorable scenes, a fantastic script and a cast straight out of the top drawer. Val Kilmer plays Doc Holliday. His friends call him Doc and his enemies call him Lunger (He’s dying from TB). Kilmer is absolutely brilliant. He has never been better and nothing he has made since even comes close to his portrayal of the Doc. Kurt Russell takes the lead role as Wyatt Earp who along with ... Read the complete review

The finest, grittiest Western ever made. I'm not a great fan of Westerns, even though I have seen a lot of them in my time. Tombstone, in my opinion, breaks the mold of "traditional" westerns and focuses on delivering a mix of realistic frontier town life, love and desperation coupled with the heroic exploits of such icons as Doc Holiday and Wyatt Earp. The film's "realistic" credentials are backed up by a short (5 minutes?) documentary piece at the start of the film that gives those of us who think that the west was won by shooting native americans and smashing whiskey bottles over people heads an important history lesson. ...
