Tomcats (DVD) ... DVD released 15 October, 2001 at Sony Pictures Home Entertainment / Features of the DVD: PAL, Widescreen / One might reasonably expect Tomcats to be the Porky's of 2001: after all, it concerns a group of young, sexist morons and their fears and fantasies about young women. But Tomcats isn't quite as brain-dead as that, though it is phenomenally more neurotic. Jerry O'Connell plays one of two remaining bachelors within a group of wealthy pals who set aside a cash reward, years before, earmarked for the last among them to get married. O'Connell needs the money to pay off a gambling debt, but his problem is that the other bachelor is a horrendous pig (Jake Busey) unlikely ever to land a gal. A general mean-spiritedness flows through this wearying comedy, manifest in such ugly moments as watching someone's girlfriend run over by a golf cart and an excised, cancerous testicle kicked around hospital hallways. If you're looking for female flesh, however, forget it: Tomcats is far more driven to explore male nudity, while making equally naked today's masculine fears of impotence, mothers and lesbians. --Tom Keogh, Amazon.com

'Tomcats' is another in the recent trend of 'gross-out' style comedies, films that push back the boundaries of good taste in order to make the audience laugh. Although I have greatly enjoyed many entries in this sub genre, such as 'American Pie', and even 'Dude, Where's My Car?’ 'Tomcats' left me cold. It is a lazy, calculated attempt to cash in on the success of similar films, without any of their inventiveness or charm. 'Tomcats' is a perfect illustration of everything, which is wrong with this type of film, and a perfect example of how bad taste done badly can be simply distasteful. This film is neither offensive, ...  Read the complete review

One day I was walking through the lobby in my local cinema when I saw a poster for a movie called ‘Tomcats’. The poster looked a bit strange, well actually one thing that made me think that it was the new American pie was the fact that there was a picture of a woman in underwear. Well I have to say months later, after reading an opinion on ciao I really felt like seeing this movie as it seemed like my kind of thing. I absolutely adore comedies and everyone I know, knows it! Anyway my brother bought me a copy of it and I was definitely looking forward to seeing it. I had absolutely no idea Jerry O’Connell is in this movie. I ...  Read the complete review
