Advantages: Great story lines, great characters, explores many issues, funny

Disadvantages: Sometimes can be a bit confusing and at times things may not be explained too well.

Sci- fi show, Torchwood originally shown on bbc created by Russell T Davies is a spin-off of Doctor who.

It's target audience is suppose to be adults but I think it is more suited to teens however it still is good entertainment for adults too. It's themes are quite dark but can also be funny.

Sometimes some episode or bits of an episode in Torchwood and the reasons for things happening in it may not be explained that good. I found I didn't seem to understand parts or get hidden messages until someone in the special features pointed it out.

Torchwood may be a Sci-fi show dealing with aliens and things out of this world but it still manages to focus quite a lot on how the world is today. It cleverly combines alien issues with life's deeper questions such as the reason and point of life and what happens after you die.

Each character in the torchwood team is explained throughout the series and is shown in there depth. The actors do a great job even in some of the harder scenes. Eve Myles (who plays Gwen Cooper) is great at showing the audience what her character is thinking by just using her face expression and body language. Captain Jack Harkness (played by John Barrowman) takes on a slightly more dark roll in Torchwood rather then in Doctor Who and John is great at showing this. Owen Harper (played by Burn Gorman), Toshiko Sato (played by Naoko Mori) and Ianto Jones (played by Gareth David-Lloyd) are the characters who seem to be happy on the outside (especially Owen) but as some episodes show more then others are actually not as happy as they can seem to be also like Jack. The actors that play these characters almost always do a good job of subtly showing some of the pain they hold inside of them.

Torchwood has a variety of episode's in it and different episode's have different theme types to it apart from sci-fi as a general and a bit of comedy in every episode. Some examples of those themes are horror, romance, action and mystery.

Overall a excellent series dealing with many issues from love, sex, the meaning of life, the dark corners of the human soul (the episode Countrycide is a great example of this) to the afterlife, aliens, and other planets.

Summary: Worth the money, no doubt about it!
