Although my review isn't specifically about the plot or even really the film, it is one of Arnold's many very entertaining films, depicting Douglas Quaid (Schwarzenegger) in the future, as a construction worker who wants to go on vacation and so goes to Rekall, a memory implant company who will give you an implant, giving the impression that you've had a relaxing holiday, and you can choose numerous attributes such as the woman you'll venture with and whether you wa...more

Premium Review Total Recall (Blu-ray): Total Recall: Science fiction adventure (240 words)
by - written on 05/07/09 (Useful, 11 readings)

Total Recall is a science fiction movie based in the future starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone. Arnold plays a man plagued by dreams of Mars and mysterious girl. After an unfortunate series of events he uncovers that his memory has been wiped and he is in fact living a lie. Through the movie he slowly uncovers his dark past, ending in a nasty twist that surprised me. Normally I do not like films set in the future, however I class this as an exception. Arnold's performance is gripping and the actual story is very well presented. The special effects aren't great but considering it was released in 1990 that comes as not surprise really. The ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A superb HD transfer of a classic (312 words)
by - written on 22/11/09 (Useful, 3 readings)
Rating:

When older films (not that Total Recall is ESPECIALLY old) get re-issued on a high definition format, the question is always asked - what's the point, when the film wasn't shot in HD? Well, while The Searchers doesn't benefit much from an HD transfer, films from the 80s and 90s were recorded in a high enough master resolution that an HD transfer is beneficial, and perhaps this is no better apparent than with Total Recall, where Mars landscapes are gorgeously realised. I have nothing but praise for the team that put this transfer together. Although my review isn't specifically about the plot or even really the film, it is one of Arnold's many very entertaining ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Total Recall (Blu-ray): Total Recall - Good fun (164 words)
by - written on 12/02/09 (Useful, 27 readings)
Rating:

Action Adventure based around a plot twist with Arnie at his monologue best! Arnie is perfect as the confused double secret agent who has had his memory erased (no acting skill required there then) and blasts his way through the film through a series of well knitted sequences. There are some real fun and orginal bits in this film (see the bit at Mars immigration where Arnies false head detaches - just fantastic and hysterical at the same time, or when he destroys a robot minicab). The concrete overpopulated vison of the future is an interesting one with a cross section of the society represented in all parts of the film making it easy to ...  Read the complete review
