Advantages: Good special effects
Disadvantages: Corny dialogue
This is probably one of Armold Schwarzenegger better films, some of the dialogue is still pretty corny and the characters a bit one dimensional but it has some great special effects and an acceptable plot to it that has a few twists but nothing that comes out of the blue at you.
Set in the future Arnie works as a construction worker, Douglas Quaid, on earth however he is plagued by dreams of going to Mars, a planet that is mined for a valuable mineral and under the control of a man called Cohaagan however there are rebels opposed to Cohaagan as he controls the air supply and bad air has caused some citizens to mutate.
When Quaid goes to a virtual holiday business to have a fantasy holiday n Mars implanted in his brain things go wrong as it turns out his emory has already been tampered with by the authorities and he is in fact a former agent for the government and his whole life is a sham, soon his beautiful wife played by Sharon Stoone and his work mates are trying to kill him and he heads to Mars to discover the truth.
This is a high quality action thriller with some excellent special effects, the scene at the arrivals passport control desk is one of the most shown clips and the whole film keeps the tempo high with lots of chase scenes and high tech gadgets.
For a bit of escapism where you do not have to engage the brain very much this is a fun romp and well worth seeing.
Summary: Good action thriller
