Advantages: fun, educational, cute characters, helps teach some French
Disadvantages: none
Tots TV is a wonderfully original concept for a childrens' TV programme, made by Ragdoll, the same company who gave us Rosie and Jim. It stars three ragdolls called Tilly, Tom and Tiny. One is French, one wears glasses and one has green hair - so that's appeased the politically correct amongst us ! <grin> Tilly only speaks French, which teaches kids a few words of the language at the age when they are most receptive to learning. She only speaks when it is obvious what she is saying, or one of the boys translates. Besides that aspect, the videos are educational in other ways too, as each programme is themed (like Rosie and Jim) around some part of life. For instance, the video called Camel And Other Stories contains three programmes (45 minutes total) for £9.99. These are entitled Camel, Beach and Fox. Viewers learn about animals, nature and simple Science, alongside a mixture of songs, games, rhymes, stories and things to do and make. For those children that are especially interested in learning French, there is a longer (53 minutes) video called Tilly, Tom and Tiny's Fun With French. This is just as entertaining as the usual programmes, but there is a stronger emphasis on the language. These videos have entertained my four children for several years now. What excellent value !
